I see her and I freeze. Sarah is walking with Ryan. They’re holding hands. How sweet. I rush up to her. “Sarah,” I say.
She looks at me. Her eyes soften and she pulls away from Ryan to face me. “Hey, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped on you like that.”
I smile. “It’s fine. I’m sorry, too. But I don’t know if I am… you know…”
She pulls me into a hug. “Just know that I am always here for you. I was only mad because, well, I’m your best friend. I want you to tell me these things.”
A bitter feeling in my stomach starts. She’s talking to me like she’s my mom or something. I push the feeling away.
“And I would, Sarah, if I was sure. So don’t tell anyone, okay? I’m still confused.”
She nods, but something flashes in her eyes. Something no one else would have noticed.
But no one else is Sarah Michaels best friend.Â
