Cash’s POV
When Royal and I had gotten out of the shower he had borrowed my hoodie and my mom’s blow dryer to look as normal as possible before sneaking out and going back to his own house. Luckily I didn’t receive a text about his dad catching him. I haven’t talked to him at all since then so I don’t know. It’s finally lunch time and I’m watching that bitch Sasha talk to Royal about who knows what.
“Dude,” Rebel punched me in the arm while Cherry and Blake watched on, “you’re staring.”
“No, I’m not,” I was cut off by Natalie joining us.
“Why is Cash staring at my brother and whoever the chick is.”
They all gave me the I told you face, “shut up. I’m just wondering what the fuck he’s doing with her.”
“Yeah, Sasha’s a pretty nice girl. I wouldn’t expect her to be talking to Ro… why are they heading over here?”
“Hi, everyone, I’m Sasha Leonard.”
“Hi, I’m Natalie and these are my friends,” Blake looked up from his phone to nod at her.
“Hey,” Cherry punched Blake.
“Sup,” and Rebel smiled at Cherry.
“What do you want, Royal.”
“I…”
“He talked to you about me… right?” She completely ignored and interrupted him.
“Yeah, I remember.”
“Did you get a haircut recently. It looks nice.”
“He got last week after his doctors appointment. Old news. Move on and ask him what you wanna ask so I can go back to the people I actually want to be around.”
“Whatever,” she turned towards me, “So, umm, do you want to go out sometime? WITH ME!” I don’t like this girl at all. I wouldn’t even if I didn’t have a boyfriend.
“Sorry, I’m in a relationship and well I’m just not that into you,” her mouth dropped open and she glared at Royal standing next to her. Little to her knowledge he’s the one I was in a relationship with.
“Why are you glaring at me. I said I would help you not that I would make him say yes or even that he was single.”
“Wha? But who? I’ve never seen you dating any chick.”
“One, I don’t know you or need to explain myself to you. And two, it’s not a chick it’s a dude.”
“What!” That didn’t sound much like an actual question, “since when we’re you gay?!”
“Never!” Royal looked at me now. His face was stone, but I knew he was confused, “I like who I like. I don’t give a damn if it’s a chick, or a dude, or neither.”
“UGH!” She got the few people who wasn’t paying attention attentions, “are you sure? I mean it’s not like another guy can be a good relationship. Men always, butt heads with each other!” At this point Royal was holding his ear by how many times she’s screamed right next to it.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m not interested so back the fuck off.”
“I’ll get you back for this!” With that she stormed off and Royal looked between me and the door a couple times beforehand letting out an exasperated sigh and walking back to his table.
“Since when did you have a boyfriend,” Rebel edged on while wiggling their eyebrows.
“Recently, he’s not someone you know very well,” technically wasn’t lying, “I saw him when we went out of town Saturday.”
“Ok! Ok! Enough about your relationship drama. Guess who was flirting with me the entire weekend and I think is going ask me to the dance after the game?” Good, they didn’t push for details.
“Who?” Blake interrogated. I’m pretty sure he’s had a crush on Natalie for a while now
“Marcus Black!”
She sounded so excited, but I just picked up the worry Royal would have if he heard, “Marcus hates Royal. Are you sure he’s not just flirting with you to get back at Royal?”
“Marcus is more mature than that! I know it seems impossible, but guess what! People can like me for me! My brother doesn’t dictate everything,” with that she got up and stormed off. I feel bad for making her upset, but I’m genuinely worried.
Cherry interrupted our staring after her as if coming out of her trance, “why did you never tell us you weren’t straight?”
“I didn’t feel the need to come out. Everyone assumes that you’re straight, but it shouldn’t be that way. I figured I would date who I date and eventually people will pick up on the fact that I am in fact not straight.”
“Ok… i guess,” after that everyone just stopped talking and we went back to eating with me occasionally looking up to stare at a certain guy across the room.
Gym class
“Okay class today we are going to do team building exercises. Look on the list for your name and your partners name,” fuck. I was with Royal which might’ve been a good thing if we didn’t have to pretend that we still didn’t despise each other.
After we got in our small groups we were told that we had to make a team exercise and the best one by the end would win… something for tomorrow.
“So… um… you’re really flexible and I’m really strong. We should incorporate that into our exercise.”
“Yeah, yeah, you do that,” that’s when I realized that he wasn’t even playing attention. Just looking at his phone, “will you please pay attention and help,” he looked up and at me.
“And why would I do that, Hugh?” At first I didn’t understand what he was doing, but then I saw everyone was looking to see what we’re going to do.
“Because I’m not doing this by myself so either you’re going to help me or I’ll make you,” he raised an eyebrow at me.
Just when he was about to speak he couldn’t say anything else before Coach walked up and splashed us both with a full cup of water. The water on me was all across my chest and face, but Coach poured water over Royal’s head because he was shorter, ruining his hair.
“Get to work and stop fighting,” nobody said another word about it and we all started working.
When everybody was looking away and Royal stopped trying to fix his hair he looked at me with the same sex-filled eyes as yesterday obviously trying to punish me for being the reason his hair was ruined.
I don’t know how, but whatever exercise we did I had to get Royal’s body on mine without making it too suspicious.
