Royal’s POV
~One year later~
Somehow some way Cash had not only been able to convince me to go on this stupid camping trip again, but a bunch of my friends and family members.
Since he was officially turning 18, which he loved to rub in my face since I wasn’t turning 18 for about another month, he had convinced a whole bunch of people to come with. About the entire Black family was here. Natalie, Tristan and Jasper. His immediate family and Jo. Also Jewel and Jeremy. This man was going all out.
It’d be better if he hadn’t been ignoring me all fucking day.
“You doing all right?” Cherry came up to me and fell in stride.
“My feet hurt, it’s hot enough I’m getting bitchy, and my boyfriend is ignoring me.”
“You’re always bitchy.”
I turned to glare at her before looking straight ahead, “Sorry.” I have been trying to be nicer and stuff this past year. I want my boyfriend’s friends to like me after all. I know I could still be cranky a lot, but I did think I was getting better. Was I not? Why didn’t anyone say anything?
“Relax,” Rebel came up next to me laughing, “she’s messing with you. Although you look like you’re about to have an aneurysm.”
“Geez, thanks.”
I left them to have a weird flirty conversation, cause for some reason the idiots still weren’t together. We’d gotten closer because of Cash which exposed me to the fact they were infatuated with each other and too blind to see it.
I butted my head into Jasper and Tristan’s conversation, “How’s my favorite lovebirds?”
“Roy, do you think pineapples belong on a pizza?” Jasper asked.
“Fuck no, that shits disgusting.”
“Exactly!”
“No, no, listen,” Tristan interrupted us, “that’s what I thought at first too, however, I went to my cousin’s house the other week and we had it and it was fucking amazing.”
“Bitch, you’re crazy.”
“Hate to agree with him, babe. Look what you’re making me do.”
“Fuck you. I hate you both.”
“No, you don’t,” Jasper threw his arm over my shoulder, “Why aren’t you with lover boy?”
“He’s been ignoring this past week and obviously I’ve stopped trying to get his attention,” I put my head down and thought about what my uncle said last year. “Do you think he’s getting bored of me? He’s finally done with my drama?”
“No!” They both said simultaneously.
“Even if he is,”Jasper said which Tristan elbowed him in the ribs for, “which he isn’t, you’ll still have us to beat his ass. Since you’ve gotten weak after quitting football.”
After last season I decided that football wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, so I quit the team and became a supportive boyfriend. I fucking loved wearing Cash’s jersey to school. Plus, it was really weird being on the team that James coached after he became my legal guardian.
“He’s probably just weirded by the fact that he’s 18 and you’re not. Technically, you are a minor and he’s not,” Tristan said shushing his boyfriend and my thoughts.
“Romeo and Juliet law. It’s not illegal.”
“It doesn’t have to be illegal to weird some people out.”
“Uggggh, if he acts like this for the next month I’m going to go crazy.”
“You’ll live.”
“Hey, Royal!” Natasha called to me from next to her husband.
“Oh, no. What do they want?” I found out a couple months ago that apparently they didn’t like me when I first started dating their son and it worried me. I thought they loved me, but now since I know they can be straight faced liars I can’t get the thought that they’re still faking out of my head.
“You better go see before they come over here,” Jasper lightly pushed me towards as I flipped him off.
“Hi,” Irene greeted me when I joined their group.
“Hey?”
“So, you know how we absolutely adore you now, right?” Natasha spoke.
“Uh huh,” I didn’t, but I wasn’t going to tell them that.
“We were wondering if you wanted to like go for a walk with us ladies while the men put up the tents?”
“You know I’m a guy right? I mean just because I,” I coughed awkwardly, “you know…. Doesn’t mean I’m a chick or anything.”
I watched as Irene and Natasha shared a nervous glance as Jason gave them the ‘I told you so look’. I was more concerned, however, of how my boyfriend had finally gotten closer to me and was listen to our conversation.
“Yes, they know,” Jo walked up to me, “they just want to talk with you in private and couldn’t think of another solution.”
That’s not creepy at all. Hey, let’s go into the woods together alone and have a conversation.
I looked at Cash again who quickly diverted his eyes from us, “Fine, I’ll go, but only because I’m avoiding a certain dipshit who has been ignoring me the whole week.”
Cash looked guilty and finally walked towards me and grabbed my wrist before stopping. He motioned for everyone else to walk ahead and after a few minutes spoke, “I’m sorry.”
“You should be,” I crossed my arms, but didn’t make any move to get away from him.
“I haven’t been trying to ignore you I’ve just been stressed about something.”
“You can always talk to me.”
“I know,” he cracked a small smile, “I swear you’ll find out what it is soon. Tonight even.”
“Wha-” he kissed my forehead and walked away to help put up the tents since we’ve finally arrived.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t rest since I already agreed to go on a walk with the others. Apparently, by ‘us ladies’ they were really stretching that. ‘Us ladies’ was in fact Natasha, Irene, Amanda, Jewel, Rebel, Cherry, and Jo. Plus, all the children we were going to watch as the ‘men’ set up the tents.
I looked at the rest of my friends to save me as I was being dragged to the lake by the huge party. We talked small talk on the way there, but when the kids ran off to play and we sat down we started talking more seriously. At least they did.
“Your mom wanted to come, but she was busy with her court orders.”
I shrugged, “She’s never really liked camping.”
Amanda gave me a sad smile as she looked ahead. They have all been acting really weird and I was about done with it.
“Ok, everyone is being really weird, so I’m going to go play with the kids. They seem more fine.”
Walking away I got into the freezing cold water about freezing my balls off and started splashing the kids.
~three hour later
After a long ass walk we finally got home. The camp looked deserted though, “Hello!” I called, “Babe! Nat! Jasp! Tristan!”
“Where is everyone,” I turned to Jo since they were the only one who had kept up with me as the rest of our group disappeared into this air.
They just shrugged, “Maybe they went down by the flower valley?”
“Flower valley?”
“Yeah, we saw it climbing up the mountain earlier.”
“Ugh,” I plopped down placing my head in my hands.
Jo sat next to me suddenly worried, “what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?!” I turned towards her fighting tears, “What’s wrong is I have been walking and playing all day because this is my boyfriend’s special trip and I am physically and mentally done. I don’t know why I even decided to come he’s been ignoring me it’s really starting to get to me. Now, after a long day I have to go chase him down to some flower valley when I just want to curl up into a tent and sleep.”
Jo rubbed their hand up and down my back, “I understand why that can be stressful. Maybe you should just talk to him.”
“I know I should. I’m just tired of being the one putting in all the effort. Maybe we’re just not meant together,” I finally let my tears fall.
“No, no, don’t say that,” they jumped up suddenly all panicked, “we’re going to go to the valley right now and talk to your boyfriend. Right now.”
They grabbed my wrist and started pulling, “Fine, fine, whatever.”
I got up and wiped my tears away.
After about 10 more minutes Jo broke away suddenly remembering that the forgot something at the camp. I offered to walk them back since it was getting late, but they just brushed me back telling me to continue the way we were going and they’ll run and catch up.
When I reached the flower valley I saw my beautiful boyfriend. He was standing on a blanket a couple yards away playing with his fingers. When he looked up and saw me he smiled.
I closed some of the distance between us, but still didn’t touch him. He had hurt me, even if unintentionally, too much for that. Although he seemed too nervous to pay attention to the distance between us.
“Royal, we hated each other-” he started.
“Cash-“
“No, please let me say what I need to, please.”
I nodded at him swallowing hard. I really hoped this wasn’t the end of us.
“Royal, we hated each other for most of our lives. Like we actually despised each other and when we were forced to were together by Amanda we were both pissed,” I sighed and looked down. He was going to break up with me and I didn’t want him to see my tears. “We had lots of oppositions like Sasha, and Ivy, and all the other ones, but somehow they helped us get together,” I looked up at him tears flowing. He hesitated at the sight of me crying, but smiled softly and continued going, “I fell in love with you and you stupidly fell in love with me,” this was a very weird break-up speech, “and we have been through I lot of good times and even more drama,” here it comes I looked down, “Now, now, I can’t imagine my life without you,” I snapped my head up at him. Like what? “You are my best friend, you are my cheerleader, you are my rock, and you are so, so much more too. I don’t want you to be my boyfriend anymore,” I swear my tears started falling faster and my heart broke in that moment, “I don’t mean to make a cliche with how much you hate those, but truly these words need to be said,” he got on one knee, took out a black box and I swear I stopped breathing. “Please, Royal, make me the happiest man alive and marry me. Let’s spend the rest of our lives together,” he opened the box and there was in fact a ring.
I started sobbing and smacked him before falling and kissing him. And kissing, and kissing, and kissing. Not in a sexual way. In a ‘I’m so happy you didn’t dump me and instead asked me to marry you’ way.
“Is that a yes?” He chuckled breaking us apart.
“You’re an asshole.”
“What?” His smile broke, “Why?”
“I thought you were going to break up with me. That’s why I was crying the whole time.”
“No, no, baby. Why would you ever think that?”
“You’ve been ignoring me and acting weird all week.”
“Oh, baby,” he hugged me to him hiding my face in his chest as if to protect anyone else from seeing me cry. He knows I hate when people see me emotional it took forever for me to cry even in front of him.
After I calmed down I whimpered out, “Yes.”
“Yes, what?” He smirked at me pulling away from my face. This asshole.
“Yes, I’ll marry you.”
He kissed me the hardest, and yet the sweetest, he had ever kissed me as he slid the ring on my finger. Everyone else ran out from the trees yelling and celebrating like they were mad.
“Thank fucking god!” Jasper through himself onto me making us both fall, “you worried me for a good second there.”
“With all the crying I couldn’t tell you if you were happy or sad!” Cherry was sobbing just as hard as me.
“When you said you thought you weren’t going to work out I about had a heart attack,” Jo hugged me and then their cousin.
“You said what?”
“Shush, honey.”
Everyone was still crying, and yelling, and talking, and everything, but my eyes were only on one person. My fiancé.
As if reading my mind Cash stood up grabbing my hand and hauling me to my feet, “you all might want to chill here for a couple more hours. I going go make love to my fiancé.” He pulled me and my red ass face into a kiss.
With groans and complaints we made our way back to camp smiling and laughing and forgetting the rest of the world if even just for these few precious moments.
