“You’re the game I want to play,
you’re the trophy I want to win.”
LISA
PLAN #1 — Impress Her!
To be honest, I don’t like showing off but in order to impress Jennie, I am forced to do some flexing.
I am driving the most expensive Bugatti Divo.
My uncle got this for me because he knows how I insanely love cars. Chaeng knows this crazy hobby that I have too, she even saw almost all of my collections except this one that I’m driving right now since it’s just two days old.
Other people loves collecting shoes, watches, and other stuffs, but me?
I am fond of collecting cars—luxury cars.
Today I’m planning to drive Jennie home. I’ve planned to impress her by showing how extravagant I am. Girls like high rollers, right? I guess I’m not wrong this time. It’s not really my field to woo people, mostly, they do that to me.
This is my first. And it’s giving me a headache. Chaeng and Jisoo helped suggest ideas last night but it was all useless and naughty.
They keep on saying “just kiss her and she’ll be yours!”
Those froward suggestions had been running in my mind but it doesn’t mean that I consider it.
But maybe, just maybe, I will. If nothing of my plan works.
“Lisa!” my professor called out my name. I stood up unconsciously. I wander my eyes around only to see that I was the center of their attention.
Did I zone out again? Urgh.
“Are we disturbing your daydreaming session?” my classmates laugh at my professor’s sarcasm. I’m in my Literature class and Jennie is in the same room with me. I caught her smirking at the awkward situation I’m in.
Gosh. Did I just lose my cool?
“S-sorry sir. What was your question?”
“Wear your mind on gear Ms. Manoban. Now, explain to me the first stanza of the poem.”
Drink to me only with thine eyes,
         And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
And I’ll not look for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
         Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,
I would not change for thine.
“The persona in the poem is asking the person whom he endears the most to look at him lovingly or simply asking to look at him the way he looks at her which he would gladly give in return. He also said that even a single kiss on his cup will not make him look for wine because she is enough intoxication for him. The thirst for that person’s love rises not from the body but from the soul which literally implies how deep his love is for her because it can only be sated by a divine drink which is impossible to human’s reach. Yet in the last two lines he made another contradicting thoughts that even if there are two drinks placed on his table, one coming from the Gods and the second is coming from the woman that he loves, he would pick the drink that his woman has to offer even if it means depriving himself the chance to taste something from heaven. To sum it up, his love for that person is unconditional and no one is going to change that.”
“That was vivid. I’m impressed but Lisa that girl has a name, it’s Celia.”
“Noted prof, can I sit down now?”
“No. Let me ask you one more question. Who is your Celia?”
I looked around and saw my classmates’ eyes on me. They are all waiting for my answer. And then my eyes landed on Jennie, she was looking at me too, but her face was expressionless and before I could react she gave me a “what the hell are you looking at?” look then she creased her eyebrows.
“Jennie?” I said unconsciously which made the whole class said ohhhh in chorus. Jennie gave me a death glare. When I realized what I said, I immediately take back what I said with my lame excuses.
“I mean Jennie, my cat. She is like my Celia because she gives me positive vibrations everytime I had a stormy day. “
“Ohhh it was a cat.”
“I thought it was the Jennie we know.”
“Shhh lower your voice, she might hear you.”
“Lisa’s cute. She even has a cat and that’s even cuter.”
“Was it a coincidence?”
I heard those whispers from the students.
“Okay you can sit down now Miss Manoban. Next time I catch you spacing out, you’ll be literally out!”
At the SSG Office
“Hi Jen!” I said when I saw her on the other side of the long table. She didn’t even look at me. She’s really ill-mannered.
“A hello won’t hurt you know?” I spoke again. It’s just us in the office since it’s off class hours. The other officers probably went home.
“I know,” Jennie replied thriftily.
This is getting harder. She won’t even talk. I need to converse with her. Get to know her. Get to know me.
“I thought you’re mute.”
“What?”
“Do you not like talking?” I asked while arranging the papers based on the list she had given me.
“I don’t. Specially with you. So stop.”
“But it’s more fun to talk with someone while doing boring stuffs like this.”
“Boring?” she stopped writing just to give me a sharp intimidating glare but I didn’t flinch. I’m slowly getting used to her indifferent stares.
“That’s just an adjective.”
“You’re wasting too much energy talking about nonsense things.”
“I’m not. It’s you I’m talking with so basically I’m not wasting my energy. I’m recharging it.”
“Do you like me?” I was startled with her straightforward question but I also immediately get back to my play.
“Yes,” then I made contact with her eyes which I regretted instantly. I felt like her eyes set a fire inside me.
“Don’t,” she looked at me with a dangerous warning then she fixed her gaze on her notebook again.
“Why?”
“Just don’t. It’s suicide,” I laughed at what she said.
“I didn’t know that you also have a sense of humor. I am starting to like you more jagiya.”
“Oh shut up! I’ll punch you if you ever call me that again.”
“Now we’re talking.”
