Y/N’s POV

“Thank you for standing up for me, but please don’t get into fights over me. I hate seeing you hurt… What were you coming to talk to me about before all of that happened anyways?” I suddenly feel my cheeks heat up at the reminder of what I wanted to talk to Wanda about. I duck my head in an attempt to keep Wanda from seeing the pink tinge that is no doubt on my cheeks. Oh god! Okay, okay this is happening right now! Okay, calm down Y/N. You’ve got this! I can tell one of my best friends that I’m secretly in love with her. I’ve got this. I can do this, right?!

I look anywhere but at her and rub the back of my neck nervously as my nerves suddenly come back full force. I look down at the ground and take a deep breath before looking back up and seeing her looking at me expectedly. She smiles softly at me as she waits for me to speak, I try to compose myself as I take a deep breath. “Well… as you know I left the game early since I was feeling a bit heated and went to go for a swim to cool off.”

She looks slightly confused by my starting point but nods to show that she is listening before I continue, “umm… so after I was done with my swim, I found Carol waiting for me at the shore.” I pause when I notice that her face slightly falls at the mention of Carol. She seems to tense up a bit, but she nods for me to continue regardless. Her reaction confuses me, but I decide to just continue and just talk to her about it later. “So anyways, she handed me the towel so that I could dry off. Once I got dressed, we sat down on the chairs near the shore to watch the sunset.”

Any semblance of a smile that was left on her face is suddenly wiped off of her face after I’ve said this. I’m about to ask if she’s okay, but she nods and motions for me to continue. I hesitate for a moment, and she clears her throat to gain my attention and says, “Okay…so you sat down together, and then what happened?” I remain quiet and watch her closely and notice that her hands fall to her side and grip the bottom of her shirt tightly before looking back up at her and confused by her actions. Why does she suddenly seem so tense? Should I stop talking and check in with her instead? Maybe sitting down will help her relax a bit. If that doesn’t help, then I’ll try asking her what’s wrong.

I study her tense posture for a moment before slowly approaching her. She looks caught off guard by this and lets her shirt go as she waits to see what I do next. I gently grab her hand and bring her with me to sit on the bed. She follows me wordlessly and turns to face me slightly once she sits on the bed, I turn to look at her before continuing. “So, as I was saying, we just sat there for a bit and watched the sunset before she asked me if I was okay.” She begins to fiddle with her fingers and nods while keeping her attention on me. “I told her how I was feeling and then we spent some time talking about some of my other feelings. She genuinely helped me figure some things out.”

Her gaze suddenly leaves me, and I notice her looking at the ground instead so I remain quiet for a moment. I decide that I need to see what is going on in her head as I say, “Wanda…are you okay?” She gently nods her head at my question, and quietly hums in response to my question. However, she keeps her gaze on the floor and completely refuses to look at me. Something is wrong, but what’s bothering her? I don’t think that I’ve said anything to possibly offend her. I mean I know that she’s not overly fond of Carol, so maybe that’s what’s bugging her? I think to myself as I continue to watch her actions for a moment while feeling completely unconvinced by her response to my question. I decide to get this part over with as quickly as I can so I can tell her what I actually wanted to say.

“It was a good conversation and then eventually she and I-” I go to continue speaking but I’m quickly cut off by Wanda suddenly standing up and walking toward the closet. I’m bewildered by this, so I quickly stand up and ask, “Wanda…what are you doing?” She stops for a moment and looks back at me as she says, “Don’t worry it’s okay there’s no need to continue…I totally get it and I’m happy for the both of you.” Her voice sounds extremely shaky as she says this while continuing to search for something within the closet. I’m suddenly ten times more confused than I originally was after hearing her response. What is she talking about? What does she mean when she says that she’s happy for the both of us? Happy for who?! I didn’t even get to the part that I was trying to get to and explain my feelings.

I’m very perplexed by what Wanda just said and begin silently trying to rack my head around what she could have possibly meant. But I am broken out of my thoughts when I notice her coming back towards the bed with something in her hands. She sets her suitcase on the bed and opens the zipper confusing me even further because I could have sworn that she had already unpacked everything that she had. Once it is open, I notice that it is indeed clearly empty and look back up at her to watch what she is going to do next. I watch as she quietly begins to gather her clothes and put them into her suitcase.

My eyes widen as it finally begins to register in my head that she is trying to leave. I quickly approach her and say “Wands, what are you doing? Why are you packing up your clothes?” She glances up at me for a split second before looking back down at her suitcase to continue packing. That glance was enough for me to notice that her eyes are watery, and her lip is trembling slightly. I begin to grow increasingly worried by Wanda’s lack of response and at the fact that she is very clearly in distress. But there isn’t much that I can do since she refuses to talk to me about what is going on.

“Hey, hey, come on talk to me Wanda. What’s going on?” I ask her desperate for an answer as to what is going on. Wanda refuses to look at me at all and continues to pack up her things and still does not answer any of my questions. Once I realize that Wanda is not going to answer me, I do whatever I can to stop her from packing any further. However, my efforts prove to be useless as she simply continues to pack away her belongings. I begin to grow increasingly frustrated by Wanda’s silence and huff as I try to think. What I could have possibly said that has upset Wanda to the point that she has decided to pack her things away?

I’m pulled from my thoughts when I hear the sound of a zipper. My head snaps up to see that Wanda has successfully packed away all of her things and is now closing up her bag. She goes to grab it off of the bed as she goes to leave and still does not answer me which frustrates me to no end. I quickly reach for her bag and hold it behind me as I look at her and plead for her to talk to me. “Wanda. Come on, talk to me, please! Why are doing all of this? I’m sorry that I did or said something that upset you, but please just talk to me! Please…”

She looks up at the sound of my desperate pleading for her to talk to me and her eyes fill with more unshed tears. She seems to debate whether or not to give in and speak to me before deciding against it and shaking her head. She quickly grabs her bag from behind me and pulls it away from me before heading in the direction of the door. She goes to leave but before she can get too far, I gently grab her wrist and say, “Wands? Come on why are you leaving?”

She does not move and still refuses to look at me or answer me but after a few moments she simply softly pulls her arm out of my grip. She simply continues to walk toward the door without saying anything. Since nothing I do or say is stopping her, I decide to run in front of her and block her path out the door. I cross my arms which makes her stop and sigh, but she still will not look at me. “Y/N…please get out of the way so that I can leave.” I frown at this and continue to look at her before shaking my head and saying, “No. Not until you tell me why you’re leaving Wanda. What is going on? What did I do or say to upset you to the point of you leaving.”

She stays silent and continues to be stubborn by refusing to look at me, so I remain in front of the door blocking her path out of the room. She finally looks at me once she sees I’m not moving and she lets out a shaky sigh. I notice that her tears are seconds away from falling as she says, “You didn’t do or say anything to upset me. Isn’t it obvious? I’m leaving the room so that you and Carol can share instead.” What? What in the world has gotten into her?! Why the hell would I need to share a room with Carol?

I stand there while looking at her wide-eyed and blink in surprise as I open and close my mouth a few times as I think of what to say. I finally tilt my head in confusion and say, “What? Why on Earth would you want me to share with Carol instead? Wanda, I don’t understand. What are you trying to say?” She huffs slightly in frustration and looks away from me as she elaborates further. “I’m letting you share a room with the girl you like because you’re my…friend. So, I’m being a good friend and leaving.”
