after that one incident they grew a lot closer. it has been 3 months ever since they met but somehow they fell like they knew each other their whole lives. san waits for wooyoung in front of the school gates every day since he takes a longer time to get out of school. after school they would rather go to a diner, arcade or simply to san’s so called ‘home’.
“you took longer than usual.” san looked at the exhausted younger who ran down to meet his not too long new best friend.
“hehe sorry.” wooyoung laughed and hugged the other, leaning onto him.
“where are we going today?” he asked getting off san and walking out the gates to the fresh fall air.
san just shruggs his shoulders.
“wooyoung?”
“yea?”
“you know we’ve only been to my home. do you maybe wanna go to your home? i don’t always wanna make you go to my small ass room.”
going to wooyoung’s house? no way. wooyoung would never let any friends of his go to his house or even worse meet his parents. yes, he has a big house and his parents make a lot of money but it all made wooyoung’s life miserable. it was all about money and there was no way wooyoung was allowed to have any flaws. what ever wooyoung does reflects on his parents and what ever his parents do reflect on him.
“there is probably a lot of mess in there cuz like uhm my parents have been reorganizing everything.”
the first lie he ever told to san.
“okay wanna go to my room then?” san spoke and wooyoung was relieved his lying wasn’t obvious.
“sure.” wooyoung smiled but inside he was disappointed in himself. he started to really like san but yet he lied to him.
–
san noticed wooyoung be a little different than before. it was three days later and wooyoung didn’t notice that after one little lie, he would have to built up more lies on it. the younger didn’t want to lie to san. but he was just too scared to open up to him. he was afraid that san wouldn’t like to be his friend anymore.
after school both of them walked home together and san noticed him acting strangely. he knows there is something bothering wooyoung.
“wooyoung is everything okay?” san asked. wooyoung was looking on the floor but as soon as san spoke he looked up, humming in question because he didn’t listened to what the other said.
“what?”
san let out a sigh. he wants to know what’s going on with him. he wants to listen to his concerns and help him.
“nothing.”
yet he is afraid that he is annoying him.
the rest of the walk was silent. none of them talked and it started to bother both. wooyoung felt guilty he didn’t listen to san because now he knows his acting had an affect on the other.
“I’m sorry.” wooyoung says which made san furrow his brows. “why is he apologizing?”
“for what?”
“i didn’t listen to you. what if it was something important and I didn’t listen because my mind somewhere else?” wooyoung stops his tracks and starts talking too much of why he didn’t listen to san and everything else.
“what is bothering you?” san asks looking wooyoung directly in the eyes signaling him that he wanted a serious conversation with the other.
“what do you mean?” wooyoung asks but he exactly knows what san means.
“stop lying.”
fuck.
“it’s really nothing that should concern you. I don’t wanna make you feel annoyed, needing to listen and hang out with that depressed boy who lives off other peoples success and-“
san took the other by his arms making him look in san’s eyes. the younger already had tears from in his eyes, fighting them from falling down.
“wooyoung what are you even talking about?”
they were inches away from each other and a tear has finally fallen from wooyoung’s eyes. san loosened his grip on the others arms. what wooyoung said before made san question if he has been taking it too far. the past few days he has been questioning the other about his past without even thinking if it maybe was too much of a sensitive subject for him.
now san had all the guilt on him. he felt bad for pushing the other too much and making him uncomfortable with the conversations they had the past few days. it hit him like a truck and he immediately took wooyoung into a tight hug while the other cried in his arms.
“i’m sorry,” san said with a light voice “i didn’t know.”
he only heard to other sob which broke san’s heart, he caused this pain to him.
“i’m sorry too. i lied to you about my past. i didn’t want you to know about it.”
“it’s okay. you don’t need to tell me anything if you don’t want to.”
“i felt terrible for keep telling lies.”
san started to caress wooyoung’s head, calming him down from all the tears that are falling.
“you could have just said that you didn’t want to talk about it. i wouldn’t have mind.”
“sorry.”
“stop apologizing you idiot.”
wooyoung laughed after san called him an idiot. it loosened the tense atmosphere. the sound of wooyoung’s giggle made san feel warm inside again. the awkwardness from the past days has finally disappeared.
“actually i know a place better than my room.”
they walked quite a while now standing in front of the big forest. the sun had already set so the darkness made wooyoung feel a little anxious.
“where are we going?” wooyoung asked the other who is leading the way.
“just follow me.” san continued walking but not long after he stopped his tracks because wooyoung has pulled them back again.
“wait it’s dangerous.” he said looking around them. his anxiety is growing the more they walk into the dark forest.
san noticed wooyoung being afraid so he took his hand and held it tight. the sudden physical interaction made wooyoung look up to san.
“just tell me if you’re afraid.” san said looking him in the eyes with a light smile on his face.
“what- I’m not.” wooyoung tried to play it cool of course.
“of course.”
they arrived at a little lake centered in the middle of the dark forest. it is beautiful. the moonlight reflected on the water.
“it’s kind of my escape place.” san said. wooyoung looks at him with big eyes and he could swear he sees the shining stars again.
“you’re the first person i took here.”
somehow wooyoung’s fear was all gone. he didn’t feel afraid anymore. whenever he is with san, he feels like he can do anything he wants and everything around him, all his worries are gone.
“wanna go for a swim?” san asks swinging their arms in excitement.
“what? now?”
the time wooyoung looks at san, the other had already taken off his school uniforms top. something in wooyoung’s mind tells him not to. the water is ice cold and they could literally freeze. but being here with san made him overcome all of it.
“are you sure about this?” wooyoung held the others boy hand tight, knowing he doesn’t wanna leave him. why?
san steps into the little lake still holding wooyoung’s hand behind him. as soon as he was half way in he turns around to wooyoung who seems to still be thinking about all of this.
“it’s not that cold.”
when wooyoung entered the water as well, he started to shiver due to the cold. but the cold feeling was soon not relevant anymore. san held wooyoung tight to him to share the last left warmth they still had.
the icy cold water wasn’t cold. the stinging pain of the cold temperature was bearable because he was also surrounded by his arms. the feeling of warmth.
that feeling wasn’t the only thing wooyoung felt.
“see, it’s nice.” he said, which made wooyoung smile.
“it is.” san smiled as well.
butterflies.
