“Closing up.” Sandra declared, her voice was oozing with authority as she closed up the wound for the surgery of the day, “Scissors, please.” She added, her nimble fingers worked its way through the stitches, “And done.”

Hushed congratulatory voices escaped through masked faces and Sandra reciprocated it with a nod, a silent thank you. She then walked towards the sterile zone of the operating room where she faultlessly removed her lab gown and then her gloves. Once she finished washing up, she then walked out of the operating room, heart on float as she knew she just successfully finished a long and agonizing battle in the operating room.

“Hi, doc.”

“Hello.” She smiled at one of the interns working before she turned to a hallway where her office was, “What a day.” She mumbled to herself as she opened the door, and when she did, her heart roared like thunders on the sky. What the heck.

She had been kissing catastrophe for a long time; had been spitting goodbyes and had been cuddling melancholy almost every night. So when she opened her office and found a very big bouquet of flowers crowding her table, she realized the feeling felt so foreign. She stood frozen by the door at the sight of the bouquet. Peonies. Her favorites.

“What…” She came in, lost for words as she softly touched the bouquet, “…who. Oh my goodness.” She added, her heart had raced its beating and she felt all the blood had rushed up to her face when she read the card.

To the most beautiful doctor I know,

I forgot to take your number so I just took my time to find where your office is. Finding such a gem like you these days is hard so I’m telling you, I won’t let you slip away.

Call me when you’re available 18xxxx

Courting you,
Pike

“This woman.” She laughed as she got the bouquet and smelled it hoping to somehow sniff a bit of her scent, “She’s damn serious!” She then got her phone, typed down Rosamund’s number and texted her with, “Got your bouquet. They’re beautiful like you. Thank you, Pikey.”

“It’s only 7 in the evening and here you are, smiling over such a big bouquet.”

Sandra turned back only to see her friend, Jennifer, with her arms crossed by the door. Judging from the woman’s tone, she knew she was there to interrogate.

“From your ex-blonde?”

Sandra shook her head, laughing as she put the bouquet down, “Definitely not.”

“So who gave you that? Don’t tell me one of the male doctors here at the hospital?”

The brunette rolled her eyes at the question before sitting down on her table and started redoing her make-up, “Ew, no.”

“So who?”

“Let’s just say…” She applied the reddest lipstick just after wiping down her lips with wet wipes, “…I’ve got a new blonde.” She replied, pursing her lips trying to apply the red lipstick perfectly.

“So you have a date with her tonight? That’s why you have asked me to cover your shift?” Jennifer asked as she watched the brunette got up and went to her comfort room inside the office to change.

“No.” Sandra snickered as she came out of the comfort room wearing a black tube dress, “How’s my outfit?” She asked, completely ignoring Jennifer’s question as she twirled in front of her.

“You look snatched.” The other brunette rolled her eyes as she looked at her friend, “So who? Who is the date?”

“I matched someone on Tinder and just when I was about to meet her, I met my new blonde instead. Long story short, I ditched my Tinder date and I felt so bad because she really prepared so now I’m meeting her. Just a friendly date.”

“Oh, ditching someone huh? You’re such a bad girl.”

“That’s why,..” Sandra got her bag and the bouquet, “…I need you to cover my shift because I owe someone a date, okay?” She gave Jennifer a grin before kissing her on the cheek, “Love you!” And out she went, leaving her friend shaking her head.

Kiss me, out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, (swing, swing) swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress

The magic flashed around her eyes as the brunette arrived at the venue where Marla Grayson from Tinder booked. It was a resto oozing with Italian touch. It was an open resto situated at the balcony floor of an expensive hotel. On the centre was this big lemon tree decorated with fairy lights. The ambience really complimented the dark skies full of twinkling celestials and truth to be told, the whole place felt magical.
Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer was playing on a walkman on the eastside corner too and it made the brunette smile. What a great song choice.

Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me

“Good evening, ma’am. SandOnTheBeach?” A waitress asked, all smiles as she led Sandra towards the only table on the resto, just beneath the lemon tree.

“Yes.” She wanted to laugh out of embarassment for the name SandOnTheBeach, she could have just given her date a proper name, “Wait. There’s only one table. Is this really what your resto is? One table only?”

“Oh, no, ma’am. The woman who booked us rented the whole place.”

“Oh.” Damn, she’s rich, “Has she arrived yet?”

“She says she’s on her way.” The waitress smiled at her before prompting her to sit, “While you’re waiting, here’s a glass of chardonay and our menu board. Have a great date, ma’am.” The waitress added before she walked out of the brunette’s sight.

As soon as the waitress left, Sandra looked around with so much awe and wonder, unable to believe that such a magical place actually existed. She was so amazed with the big lemon tree on the center, its vibrant leaves radiating a refreshing scent throughout the entire place. The lights surrounding the venue created a dreamlike atmosphere, illuminating the entire space with a soft and enchanting glow. Sandra felt as though she had stepped into a fairy tale, where the beauty and charm of Italy were expertly captured in every detail. Aside from the enchanting venue itself, the music played in the background enhanced the overall ambiance, creating a perfect blend of romance and sophistication.

Kiss me, (kiss me) down by the broken tree house
Swing me, (swing me) upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, (bring, bring) bring your flowered hat
We’ll take the trail marked on your father’s map
Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight

Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me

Marla Grayson
Just entered the hotel. I’m on my way up now.

SandOnTheBeach
Ain’t ditching you tonight. LOL
I’m already here.

The excitement bubbled up in her as Sandra knew her date was coming in a matter of minutes. She checked herself on her mirror, making sure she looked dashing as ever in her black tube dress. She was excited – excited to meet Marla Grayson, the woman who picked and rented the whole resto, to which Sandra had made a mental note to thank her for it because really, she loved the place so much. After checking herself and putting the mirror back into her purse, the brunette situated her gaze towards the door, excited to finally meet the woman she ditched over Rosamund Pike. She had apologized to her already via Tinder – for ditching her – and Marla Grayson was just cool about it and with that, the brunette just felt that maybe she and Marla Grayson could be friends.

Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon’s sparkling
So kiss me

The door opened and damn. Who gave Marla Grayson all the rights to be that hot? Sandra wanted to scream silently as her date finally arrived in an all white Chanel suit with her cleavage slapping her a big hello. She had tinted glasses on and her hair was hidden under a black cap. Her black heels were making statement sounds as she walked towards the brunette on the table. She looked hot, so damn hot. But just as she was walking closer and closer, she abruptly stopped midway and Sandra, on the other hand, froze on her seat. Oh my goodness. The two women collided in a not-so-antipicated moment that Sandra stood up from her seat in shock.

“Cate/Annette?”

Cate hung her lips in shock as she took her tinted sunglasses off, “Fuck.” She mumbled to herself, disbelief washing over her as she saw her ex across her.

Damn you, destiny.
