Today was the first show of “The Eras Tour” and excitement hung in the air. Evie woke up in her hotel bedroom after she tiredly fell into the bed the night before. The dinner was a wonderful end of the day and she could not believe that she would be able to hang out with all these talented and kind people every day. Surprisingly, Evie felt less nervous and scared that day than she had felt the day before. The first rehearsal on stage assured her that we would be able to manage it all and that she could look forward to her set. Evie got out of the bed which was really comfy and perfect for a day full of bed-rotting but this day was not that kind of day. She had to be at the stadium at around 11 am for soundcheck where she would finally be able to rehearse with her bad that had arrived late at night the day before. Maybe that was also a reason why she didn’t feel as nervous anymore because she felt safe around the people that she knew well. She met her band a year earlier and they grew into a friend group which shared their love for music and supported each other.
Evie arrived at her dressing room early and took her time to do some vocal practice before she had to go on stage for one last rehearsal. Her voice had to be on point that day, she didn’t want to risk a voice crack to happen. Suddenly, someone knocked on the door and Nick opened the door. Behind him, Evie could see the rest of the band who all beamed at her when they entered the room. “Oh guys I am sooo happy that you are finally here. I was a bundle of nerves without you yesterday!”, Evie told them and fell into their arms. “We’re not gonna leave you alone again, honey. And I personally can’t wait to rock this stage, this is so freaking cool!!!”, Sarah said excitedly, her eyes filled with anticipation. Sarah had always been more brave when it came to live performances as she used to play on the streets go gain some money when she was younger. It was a great help to have her by Evies side because her confidence made Evie feel comfortable. Suddenly, there was another knock on the door and a staff member told them that it was their time for soundcheck. With her band in her back, the stage felt less big and Evie could really enjoy her soundcheck. She could already perform with more confidence than the day before and had no problems hitting the high-notes in some of her songs. “This was fun and it was only soundcheck!”, she told the others once their last song was finished. They all beamed at each other and without talking they all knew they had the same thought “We’re really doing this.”.
Evie had some time off after the soundcheck to eat lunch with her band and to take a quick power nap at her hotel bedroom. She would stay for the whole show and knew that it was going to be a long day and energy was needed. At 5pm she arrived with the others at the stadium and on her way there, she had already spotted numerous fans who made their way to the stadium as well, all dressed in the most beautiful and creative outfits. Excitement grew in Evie as she made her way to her dressing room where she unloaded her things. She did not know what to bring to a concert as a pre act and filled her bag with her makeup, a brush, a lucky charm her mother had given her when she was a child, chewing gum and book, of course. She actually knew that she wouldn’t find time to read but it felt weird to go somewhere without one. She still had enough time to take her time while getting ready, something she loved. She didn’t want to exaggerate but she wanted to put on some more fancy make-up for this kind of event. After her make-up was ready she took care of her hair and straightened it with her hair-straightener. She had just cut her brown hair to a long bob and was thankful that she did, because getting ready didn’t take as long anymore. When she felt ready, she went over to her band’s dressing room which was just two doors next to hers. She didn’t really understand why they had given her a separate one and she didn’t want to be alone in hers and wait for her set to begin. This experience needed to be shared. “Hi guys….it’s happeninggg…”, she said when she entered the room and found them hanging out on the sofas. You could feel the anticipation in the room and time seemed to stand still while they all waited for someone to pick them up for the stage. It was only 15 minutes until Evies entrance when she realized she forgot her mother’s lucky charm in her bag which she wanted to put into her pants bag. She wore a wide legged black jeans and a baby tee which had a mirror ball printed on it and said “party girl”. She wanted to feel comfy and confident on stage and chose an outfit she wouldn’t feel like a costume. She hurried back to her dressing room to unpack her back and get the lucky charm and was glad that she had thought of it, when she saw Taylor by the doorframe of the door she had left open in her rush.
“Hi, I just wanted to wish you good luck, you’re gonna rock this!”, she said and gave Evie a bright smile. Taylor was still in sports wear and a low ponytail and had just arrived a few minutes before. You could tell that she was looking forward to the evening because her eyes were sparkling. “Thank you! I am so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait now.” “You don’t have to wait long now, I am so hap- is that your book?”, Taylor glanced at Evies book on the table which she had just placed there. “Yeah I just started it but I don’t really know why I brought it here, I guess I won’t find the time haha”, Evie said and was a little embarrassed because she didn’t want Taylor to think that she’d rather stay in her dressing room room to read than to watch her perform later. “The book has been on my to-read-list for ages now and I never got to buy it because I am always in a hurry. Please tell me all about it when you’re done!”, Taylor just answered happily and there was no hint of judgement in her voice. “I am sure I will, it’s pretty great so far.”. Then someone called Taylors name from outside and asked her to get ready. Taylors show look was way more special and it took some time to be created. She just gave her a quick “See you.” and a smile and left for her dressing room. 15 minutes were over now and a staff member appeared at the doorframe where Taylor had just stood before, telling Evie that it was time for her to perform.
Her band entered the stage before her to take their instruments and play the intro of the first song of the set. Evie couldn’t see the crowd yet but the cheers indicated that there were already a lot of people and they were in a pretty good mood. Finally, it was time for Evie to run up the stairway and step on the stage. Her body moved automatically and she suddenly found herself on this huge catwalk that was Taylor’s stage. “Good evening Miami, how do you feel?” she shouted in her microphone before she sung the first line of the song. This is how it feels like, she thought to herself while singing. This is touring. This is my job. Evie could let herself go, perform as if he had never done anything else in her life and had so much fun. She had sung two songs before it was her time for a short speech which she had prepared in advance. “My name is Evie and I am so happy to stand on this stage tonight in front of such an incredible looking crowd!”, she started. She was actually surprised at how packed it already was even though Taylors show would begin later on that night. The whole floor war flooded with fans and more and more people entered the stadium. “I want to thank Taylor for giving me the opportunity to do this, I would have never expected this.”. Taylor was probably in her dressing room busy getting ready and wasn’t able to hear Evies speech but Evie felt the need to voice her thankfulness. She also took her time to introduce the band and talked about the song that she sung next, before the band started playing its intro.
The rest of the set flew by, the crowd was having a good time and Evie was surprised how many fans knew the words to her songs and cheered for her. On this stage she came to realize that she had underestimated how many people knew and liked her music. After the last song, she and her band took a bow and left the stage with so much joy on their faces that you could tell from afar how happy they were.
Backstage, everyone was preparing for Taylor to go on stage next. There were staff members running around, dancers in costumes and there was Taylor in her sparkly bodysuit. Her hair was straightened, her bangs looked perfect and her lips were bright red. For a moment, Evie stood still and couldn’t do anything but observe Taylor before her time to shine. “Now THAT is a look.”, Ben, her guitarist said and you could tell that he was attracted to her. “She looks perfect.”, Evie murmured to herself, not sure if anyone heard it.
“Guy, time for a group pic before the show! Come together!”, Taylor shouted. They all gathered and the tour photographer took a group picture. There was so much excitement in the air, everyone had a big smile on their face and in the background you could hear the fans screaming. Evies job was done and now it was Taylors time to show what she and her team had planned and rehearsed for months in advance. Evie was ready to enjoy her show.
