It was December 13th; Taylor’s birthday. They had arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada the day before for a show an stayed for another five days. Taylor had planned in advance to have to days off in order to celebrate her birthday and to have a hangover and no-show day the day afterwards. Taylor loved a good party and she loved planning parties even more, especially for her own birthday. The event was set to take place in a private club with all of Taylor’s closest friends who flew in from all the different places. Evie was excited to meet them all after Taylor had told her before how she’d get along with them.
Evie still had some time before the party and needed to wrap her present. She had bought special illustrated edition of her favorite book “Jane Eyre” which Taylor had showed her multiple times before. It was often sold out which was why Taylor had not bought it herself yet but Evie was lucky enough to get a hold of it. She had searched in every online store and had activated the notifications to buy it over a month ago because she really wanted to give it to her on her birthday. She had also bought a gift card at a shop the day before and only needed to write a few lines to finish the present. But that was easier said than done. She could talk about Taylor all day. But what was she supposed to write on a tiny card? All of her feelings felt to grand to be reduced to a few lines and writing songs was definitely easier than this.
Dear Tay,
Happiest birthday to you! I can’t put into words how grateful I am to be on this journey with you and how happy I am to be a part of your life and to celebrate this day with you and the others. I just want you to know that I celebrate you everyday and that you have a place in my heart.
I know how much you wanted to own this book and I somehow managed to find it. It’s really special – just like you.
Yours Evie
Evie read her text about five times and hoped that it wasn’t too cheesy but also not thoughtless. After a few more minutes, she finally decided that it was probably fine put the card into the book to wrap it. She really needed to rush a bit because the time flew by as always and she didn’t want to attend this party looking like someone who had bedrotted the whole day – which she had done. She wanted to look good this evening and put on a strapless top and flared glitter pants which she loved wearing for special occasions. And this was Las Vegas – she obviously needed some glitter on her. Evie got more and more excited for a fun night out when she got ready and couldn’t wait to see Taylor again even though they had last seen each other the day before. I am falling really hard for her, Evie thought to herself and then shrugged her shoulders because how was she supposed to not fall hard for someone like her?
Evie arrived at the destination almost on time but the private club was already crowded with people. Evie didn’t know a lot of them and searched for some familiar faces in the room because she hated staying helplessly alone at parties. She was looking out for Taylor’s dancers when Evie spottet Taylor herself – even better. Taylor looked stunning as she wore dark blue pants, a silver strapless top and a black blazer. She looked like a literal girl-boss and Evie took a moment to just admire her from afar.
„Hey birthday girl! Happy birthday!”, she finally said when she stood in front of her, her hands tightly holding the present. „Hiii Evie!”, Taylor said excitedly and took her in for a big hug. Taylor was already in a a really good mood and Evie left out a chuckle. „This club is really fancy, I love it. Where should I put your present?”. „Oh thank you! There’s a little table for the presents in the back. I can show you.”, Taylor said and took Evie by the hand to show it to her. Holding Taylor’s hand was electrifying and Evie suddenly realised that this night was about to be really challenging because they had to pretend to be normal friends. They arrived at the table which was already filled with presents for Taylor and Evie laid hers next to the others. „You being her is the only present I need.”, Taylor said and winked at Taylor as no one around them watched them. „I still wanted to get you something. It’s you’re special day!”. They both stood there in front of each other and smiled while more and more party guest arrived, but that didn’t matter. At least for a short moment until someone’s voice interrupted them. „That’s my girl!!!”, a red-headed woman with a stunning dress shouted and went up to them to hug Taylor. Evie knew that it was Abigail because Taylor had told her about her longest friend and she knew to the lyrics of the song „15″. „Hi, I am Abigail! You’re Evie Jones, her support act right?”, Abigail said when she faced Evie and also took her in for a short a hug. „Yeah I am.”, Evie confirmed and supposed that Abigail only knew her as that – as a co-worker and not a friend. „There are some other people at the door looking for you. I think you should greet them.”, suggested. Taylor agreed and the three of them made their way to the club entrance to greet Taylor’s friends. Taylor introduced Evie to Gigi, Selena and Blake who had arrived together and wo were really open-hearted towards her. „I think we should all get a drink and raise a toast to this fun night!”, Taylor suggested and pointed to the bar. „Let’s get this party started!”, Blake shouted and laid her arm around Taylor who was beaming with joy.
The party was a huge success and everyone enjoyed themselves. Evie had a great time and got along very well with Taylor’s friends, especially Blake who was a big party girl and loved dancing like her. After a while, Evie decided to get a drink and sit down for a while in one of the cozy lounges in the corner of the club. She spottet Melanie, Taylor’s back-up singer and decided to join her to gather some of energy for the rest of the night. „Hi, I really need a break.”, she said when she sat down next to her on the couch. One Melanie’s other side sat Jack, Taylor’s songwriter/producer but also friend. She had only heard from him through Taylor but it was their first time meeting in person. „Hi I’m Evie”, Evie introduced herself to him and he greeted her with a kind expression on his face. „I’m Jack. You’re really rocking it on stage, I like you’re songs.”, he said and surprised Evie a little. It was a huge compliment because she knew that he was writing incredible songs with Taylor and that he was really talented. She blushed a little and thanked him.
Jack turned out to be a really nice guy, no wonder Taylor liked him. In the club lounged, the vibrant atmosphere of Taylor’s party buzzed around them while the three of them engaged in a conversation about songwriting. Evie leaned forward, her excitement palpable as she shared her recent experiences with it. She spoke about a new melody she had been working on, detailing how it captured a feeling of longing. Melanie listened intently, then shared her own struggles with writing, mentioning how she often got stuck to the lyrics. „I think I’ll stick to being a backup singer and singing someone else’s lyrics. But I-“. Melanie was in the middle of speaking when a tall handsome looking guy with blonde hair and blue eyes joined their little group and sat down on one of the couches opposite to them. „Talking about music? That’s my thing.”, he said and high-fived with Jack who he seemed to be friends with. „Hi buddy. This is William, he also writes for Taylor”, Jack introduced him to the two women. „Sorry I forgot to introduce myself first. I think I’ve got a bit too much to drink already…”, he laughed and then continued saying „but yeah Taylor and I have been working together for quite a while now, we’re good friends.”. His smile had a proudness to it. „It’s really nice that Taylor gets along so well with everyone she works with.”, Evie said and had to think about multiple people in this club that night that Taylor had met through her job. „Yeah that’s true. With some a little too well I would even say.”, Jack suddenly said and winked at William who just chuckled. Evie didn’t understand the reference and was a bit confused which is why she was relieved when she saw that Melanie had also no idea. „Taylor and I were in a sort of situationship and the beginning of the year. But I guess it’s over”, William explained and fidgeted with the glass in his hands. „Oh okay”, Evie couldn’t hold back and immediately regretted it because she didn’t want it to sound so surprised. She didn’t really know what else to say as she suddenly found the situation a bit uncomfortable considering the serious and almost tone in William’s voice. Luckily, Melanie managed to say the right words in this moment and changed the mood immediately. „Well I guess we shouldn’t discuss Taylor’s private matter without her being here. So: Is there any chance you know who this cute guy by the bar is and if he’s single? Asking for a friend.”. According to Jack, it was someone’s boyfriend but Evie didn’t actively follow their conversation anymore as she still had to think about William’s words. Taylor obviously knew that Taylor had dated other guys before just as she did herself, but it was never great to meet your crushes ex, especially when that ex couldn’t be more different than Evie. He was very muscular, blonde, tall and – not to forget – a man. Evie remembered that Taylor had recently worked with him and had only introduced him as a co-worker and friend. She had seemed cool about him but Evie herself had never experienced an harmonious break-up herself that it was hard for her to believe it.
As if on cue, Taylor arrived at the lounge with a bright smile on her face and Evie could tell from looking at her eyes that she was more than tipsy. „Is this the gossip-area like at any high school party?”, she joked and made them all laugh in unison. „Kind of. But don’t worry; we’re not talking shit about you!”, Jack said and chuckled. „Good to know. Hey Evie; would you mind borrowing me this special lipstick you have? I want to fresh up my make up in the restroom…”, Taylor suddenly said to Evie who had no idea what she was talking about. Maybe Taylor mixed something up. „My special lipstick?”, she asked back, her face full of confusion. „Yeah, you know the one…you always keep in your jacket pocket…”, Taylor tried to explain while she also communicated with her eyes that Evie needed to play along. Finally, Evie understood the assignment. „Ah this one! Yeah I’m not sure if I still have it in there, let’s go to the wardrobe and see.”, Evie suggested and abruptly stood up from the couch. „Sorry guys, I need to borrow her for a second. I need to look good for the pictures, you know?”, Taylor dismissed her and the two of them left the lounge to head to the wardrobe, which was in another separate room. „That took you some time to understand!”, Taylor whispered to her with an amused expression. „Sorry but that was so random of you Taylor!”
They arrived at the wardrobe where they pretended to search for a non-existent lipstick just in case anyone watched them. When they realised that no one seemed to care, they laughed and Taylor took Evie’s hands to hold them in hers. „I was looking for you everywhere. I missed you”. Evie’s heart melted away. „I needed a little break and then I met some of you’re friends. I kind of forgot the time, but here I am.”. She squeezed Taylor’s hands and moved a little closer. It was a risky thing to do but Taylor’s presence made it impossible to keep a distance. „Yeah I saw you met Jack and William.”. Taylor’s tone was neutral and Evie didn’t really know what to answer which is why she decided to only keep poking into Taylor eyes. And Taylor also didn’t seem to expect an answer from her as a bright smile formed on her lips while they continued their staring contest. „Do you know what’s cool about this wardrobe?”, Taylor suddenly asked and broke the silence between them. „There’s another small bathroom for staff.”, she said again and let go of Evie’s hands to open to door to the said room next to them. „Sneaky”, Evie said and took the opportunity to step in, followed by Taylor. Taylor closed the door, locked it and quickly grabbed Evie’s face to kiss her. This was long overdue, Evie thought to herself and engaged in the longing kiss. The fact that there was a party going on outside only contributed to the thrilling atmosphere in this little bathroom. Evie pressed Taylor against the wall and moved on to kiss her neck which made Taylor let out a quiet moan. It was her weak spot, Evie knew that already. Taylor’s held Evie by the waist and she noticed how her grip got tighter as her kisses intensified. She wanted to place a hundred kisses on Taylor in this moment but the loud noises outside kept reminding her that they weren’t fully alone. She let go of Taylor’s neck and looked her in the eyes again which was full of longing. „Why did you stop?”, she asked her accusatory with a teasing underdone at the same time. „I bet you don’t want to walk around with a hickey. That wouldn’t be fun to explain miss swift”, Evie joked and held Taylor’s face in her hands to give her another kiss on her soft lips. „I would love to stay in here all night.”, Evie said when their lips parted and really meant it. All she wanted was to leave this party with Taylor to spend the rest of the night alone in a hotel room. „Me too. But I guess we need to be responsible and go back now.”. Taylor’s eyes let Evie know how much she actually wanted to keep on doing what they had just done but she was also right, they needed to get back to the otherwise. Taylor and Evie quickly fixed their hair and outfits and Taylor reached out her arm to unlock the door when Evie grabbed her arm again. „hey, don’t forget to put some lipstick one. Remember that I’ve just borrowed you my special one.”, Evie reminded her with a look on Taylor’s lipstickless lips. „Thank you for reminding me”, Taylor said and placed one last kiss on Evie’s lips.
Luckily, no one saw them leaving the bathroom. Taylor went up to her jacket to pull out her signature red lipstick to adjust mehr make-up. „Perfect.”, Evie said when Taylor looked at her for her approval. It was time to blend in with the crowd.
