The next day was their last day in the city before Thanksgiving and Evie was ready to leave. She needed some time with her family at home and only wanted to have a break from everything tour-related because everything led to Taylor. She just wanted to lay on the sofa in her mom’s living room, eat her delicious home-cooked meals and watch „Friends” together. Only one more show and you’re home, she thought to herself on her way to the hotel’s breakfast buffet. She only needed to keep her head up for one more day until she was able to let the mask fall. She needed to tell somebody about her feeling and her mom was her most trusted person.
Evie was still confused about Taylor’s absence the day before. Everything had seemed to be fine after the kiss and at Friendsgiving but what had happened then? Evie was scared that Taylor had reflected the past events and that she suddenly felt weird around Evie because she didn’t trust her that the kiss had meant nothing to her. Maybe Taylor wanted to give her space to get over her feelings in order for them to stay friends. Evie hat no clue but she didn’t want to run after Taylor after the day before. She didn’t want her to think that she cared as much as she actually did. She feared that this would make it worse.
It was very early and there were only a handful of people in the dining room. Evie got herself a bowl and made herself a muesli. She was in her thought while choosing her fruits that she didn’t notice Kam who also arrived for breakfast. „Good morning!”, he greeted her when he suddenly appeared next to her. „Don’t scare me that early in the morning Kam! Why are you even up already?”. „Well I could ask you them same!”. He was right. Evie was a really bad sleeper when she had thoughts troubling her. But she didn’t want to expose that. They both sat down on a table in the huge dining hall which seemed a little to big for the amount of people in the room. Evie was grateful for the chance to stay in the most expensive 5-star-hotels but she also loved a cozy breakfast in her own bed. „Can I ask you something?”, Kam said with a concerned look on his face which confused Evie. She just nodded and let him speak. „What did you tell Taylor after Friendsgiving that made her look so sad yesterday?”. Now, Evie was actually confused. „I said nothing and Taylor didn’t even speak to be yesterday! What happened.”. Kam sighed for a short moment and seemed to make up his mind about how to find the right words. „I don’t know really, she just appeared a bit upset yesterday. She really went in for the sad love songs and something seemed off. I can spot a fake smile when I see it. I just thought that it could have been related to your guys’ situation because you said that you wanted to speak to her. But nevermind then…”. Evie started to worry. What Kam had just told her sounded weird and unlike the Taylor she had seen in the past months who appeared extremely happy on stage. Evie started wondering if something else had happened that she didn’t know about and hoped that Taylor was fine. „Kam, I don’t know what’s wrong but I worry about her. But you can be sure that I did nothing to cause that. I think you should forget about the stuff between me and her anyways. It’s none sense.”. Kam raised his eyebrows looked at her expectantly but she didn’t want to say more about it. “Well if you say so.”. Evie was relieved when they changed the topic. Talking about Taylor made her feel stiff and unwell. She didn’t want other to see her feelings for her and constantly felt caught. But Kam was a good friend and managed to distract Evie by telling him about his families thanksgiving traditions which led them to a huge discussion about thanksgiving food and movies to watch.
After an hour, they left the dining hall, which was already less empty than before, and said goodbye to each other. Kam wanted to go on a shopping spree and Evie wanted to go for a run in the nearby area as the weather was quite warm and sunny. Back in her room, Evie looked for her phone which she had forgotten before breakfast to text her mom about her next day’s flight’s arrival time. She couldn’t find it on her bed and not on her night table which led her to turn her room upside down because there was nothing more annoying than a relocated phone. After a while of searching, she finally found it on the bathroom sink and couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw three messages from Taylor on her display.
Taylor:
“Hi, we haven’t really talked about the song much in the past days but I keep thinking about that night when we started writing it. So…I have an idea for the bridge:”
“I’m gonna bend ’til I break and
You’ll be my favourite mistake
I wish you could hold me here, shakin’
You’re the risk, I’m gonna take it
Why aren’t you here in my bedroom?
Hopelessly boring without you
I am just falling for you
I am here falling for you”
“Can we talk?”
