“Hey Alex.” His smile stretched from cheek bone to cheek bone, widening with every step I took forward, exposing the pearly teeth that sat inside his mouth. His forehead glistened with sweat from the game and dirt from the slightly muddy grass covered his clothing.

“What can I say?” he said with a little chuckle, overjoyed and practically bubbling with happiness. He took his hands that were stationed at his sides and placed it on either side of my cheeks. With glittering eyes he moved in slowly. Puckered lips and closed eyes grew nearer and nearer to me before I called out his name.

“You’re ruining the mood.” He chuckled, eyes still tightly shut.

“No, actually you’re creating one that’s not there.”

His eyes opened slowly, the smile visibly fleeing from his now worried features. “W-what?”

“I’m sorry Alex.”

Things got deathly quiet and for the first time an awkward silence surrounded us in a tight blanket with the realization that one of us was about to be heartbroken.

“So you’re not choosing me?”

“Alex.”

He shook his head slightly. “No, it’s alright. You can go.” He coldly muttered through clenched teeth. His words said one thing but his dark eyes that were bright on my arrival betray them.

“Alex. I’m sorry.”

“Stop saying that!” He yelled but quickly retracted the anger back once he saw how startled I got. Cursing under his breath he quickly muttered an apology.

“I just…didn’t want this to happen.” He whispered with his head bowed.

“There will be others.”

“I don’t want others.” he said and lifted his head to look into my eyes – his now were full of water and on the brink of an overflow. But like the man he was trying so hard to be, he kept them locked inside.

“I want you.” He choked out.

“I’m sorry Alex.”

“Fuck.” He cussed again. “You said it again. Stop that.”

I hesitated to speak again because the only words I could even think to mutter were the two that he didn’t want me to.

“I guess this is it?”

I nodded slowly and with a lump in my throat that signified the enormous guilt I felt in my chest. “Alex. Don’t change.”

His eyes narrowed as to ask me a silent question.

“You changed. Too quickly, too swiftly. Sure, you were a dick and I have a hand in this but don’t change for love. You’re better than that.”

“I don’t think I am. Jacob always gets what he wants and once again he’s batman and I’m the Robin. He’s superior I’m left feeling inadequate. I’ll always be in his shadow.”

Suddenly, a wave of awareness rushed over me. “Alex. You’re only doing this to outdo Jacob?”

“No. I love you. I really do.”

“But I don’t think I can return those feelings.”

“So, it’s over?” he spoke, his voice shaking tremendously. He bit his bottom lip.

“I’m sorry.” I said again.

He chuckled through his tears and lowered his head, eyes meshing with the ground. “I guess I should have seen this one coming huh? God, I’m so stupid!”

I raised his chin so his eyes would correspond with mines. I smiled lightly and touched his cheek. “You’re not stupid. But, I’m not the right one for you.”

“God, look at me.” he murmured, dusting himself of off the dirt on his clothes. “I’m a damn wreck.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” He wiped his cheek. “You’re right, we were bound to fail. I guess I didn’t want to see it. But its reality and it bites.”

I placed a hand at his cheek and he lied into it. He closed his eyes and sniffed, reopening them as a tear fell. “Okay then, go and find him.”

I nodded stiffly and turned around, feeling his eyes burn into my back. “Hey, Evan.”

I spun around to face him. He wiped his eyes of tears and smirked. “Nice ass.”

My jaw slightly dropped but a smile soon curved onto it. “I don’t think I’ve ever be happier to hear those words you horny, idiotic douche bag.”

His face fell into a genuine smile as well. “Okay, hot stuff.”

I chuckled happily before turning and walking on the pathway. Heading straight ahead and closing in on my target who surely sat next to the fountain.

Before I could even see it someone pulled me under the bleachers. Before I could say a word K covered my mouth.

“Evan, I need you to leave now.” He sounded distressed and was all but calm.

I removed his hand and with profound confusion asked, “Why, is something wrong?”

He looked through the bleachers and I followed his vexed gaze to a group of boys that I’ve never seen before standing next to the first bleacher on the other side.

“Who are they?” I asked. K threw me a dumbfounded look- as if I should know who they were.

“They’re los Peligrosos.”

“Is that Arabic or something?”

He smacked me in the middle of my forehead, stunning me momentarily.

“It’s Spanish and it means The Dangerous Ones. They’re my former gang members.”

I gasped. “What the hell are they doing here?”

“They’re looking for the guy who I apparently have feelings for.”

My eyes widened. “Oh my God…where is he?”

He smacked me again. “You, dumbass! They’ve been watching us and are trying to convince me to rejoin.”

“By threatening to beat me up?”

He scoffed, keeping his eyes on the quintet.  “This isn’t a high school football team full of asshole jocks, these guys will kill you.”

My shock to his mind-set regarding jocks which, even if not intended, included Alex and Jacob left me stunned to even comprehend the more crucial and dangerous last part of the sentence.

 “Are you implying jocks are dicks?”

His eyes flew to me with a sarcastic glint, “Well there not going to win nicest clique of the year.”

“I resent that. Alex and Jacob are not assholes.” I thought about it for a second. “Okay, maybe Alex a little and Jacob just a tiny smidgen but they’re not that bad.”

“We’re getting off topic. Leave. Now.” He said sternly, pointing his hands towards the school’s doors that led inside and of course to the parking lot.

I folded my arms tightly across my chest and raised a defiant eyebrow, “No. This is my school and I’m not going anywhere. They’re on my turf so if they try anything they’ll be outnumbered five to about twelve-hundred.” I looked back in the direction where I was heading. “Besides, I have unfinished business.”

He hesitated for a moment before speaking. “You chose?”

“You sound surprised.”

He swallowed harshly. “I am kind of. Or more so disappointed. But that’s life, I guess.”

I raised a confused eyebrow and narrowed my eyes, “What are you talking about?”

“Nothing important. Trust me. Just…go and get your business over with and I’ll take care of them.”

Slightly confused and sad I walked away. Leaving K’s piercing eyes burning holes the size of Jupiter into my back. I walked for a while before arrived at the fountain where the boy stood. Waiting for me there. His back was arched as he leaned over into the fountain not even noticing my presence.

“Jacob.”

He didn’t even flinch.

“Jacob.”

“I heard you Evan.” He whispered, keeping his back towards me.

“Well, you called me here so…”

“Yeah well, you took a long time to get here. You went to Alex first.” He finally looked at me but avoided my eyes.

“I did.”

“Fuck.” He muttered and came closer. “Evan please don’t do this to me.” he grabbed me by the arms tightly and shook me slightly. “Please.” He begged.

“Jac-”

“Jesus.” He interrupted. “Why can’t you just see how much I care about you?”

“But I didn’t choo-.”

“Damn It! Love me please?”

I ripped an arm out and slapped him hard across his face. Jesus. Get a grip dude. “Jacob I chose you.”

Why did I feel like Ash just now?

“Fine then you and Alex can go…” he faded and his eye slit up with realization at what I just said. “You what?”

I smiled warmly. “I want to try things with you Jacob. I broke things off with Alex for you.”

He didn’t speak which got me worried. But I eased once a huge grin appeared on his face. All at once, he grabbed me by the arm and dragged me away.

“What are you doing?”

He still didn’t speak. It was half way there when I noticed he was pulling me onto the field. “Oh no.” I warned and tried to break free but his strength superseded mines in all meanings of the word.

The crowd ‘hooted’ and cheered once we made it onto the field. Alex stood close by and caught the attention of Jacob who jogged over to him. They rested their heads together and exchanged inaudible words and shook hands. Alex looked excruciatingly cheerless but I fought off the feeling of guilt. I was supposed to be happy. This was my moment.

Jacob grabbed a megaphone from where both teams were standing and approached me with a huge smile. He got behind me and wrapped one of his strapping arms around my waist while holding the mega horn with the other.

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Teachers and other unimportant faculty members. I, Jacob Patterson and this beautiful creature I’m holding are now a couple.”

I nearly died of embarrassment as they all began to cheer and shout. Kimmy, who I spotted in the crowd looked exceptionally happy with the news and was currently jumping for joy next to Ev and the boys.

“There’s only one thing left to say.” He turned to me and looked into my eyes, dropping the mega phone to the ground.”Evan, I love You.”

I swallowed harshly as that familiar feeling of butterflies racing towards my chest cavity crept in. “I know you do.”

“That’s not the answer I was looking for.” He stated bluntly.

I thought for a second about what I was about to say. Did I? Could I? What will others thing? What will Mom think? Then, the words of K hit me.

I need to stop worrying what others thought. Fuck over thinking. “I love You too Jacob. You are more than just a jock I found in my bed.”

He smiled that boyish smile and leaned in but I stopped him by placing a finger on his lip. “This couldn’t get anymore cliché unless it started to-”

Thunder sounded through the sky cutting me of unceremoniously and the first drop of rain fell onto my nose.

“Rained.” I murmured. “Damn it. I swear I could be in a movie or something. It’s like my life is one ongoing story. Maybe I could replace Kristen Stewart in the Twilight Saga. I have hella more personality that her, plus I’m prettier for sure-”

“Evan.”

“Yeah.”

“Shut it and Kiss Me.”

“Okay.”

My lips met his for the first time I could actually remember. Those pink, soft lips felt as good as they looked. The rain came down harder and harder as thunder flashed and lightning struck the ground and my heart. Everyone ran inside for shelter but I felt warm, safe and dry just where I was.

(Early The Next Morning.)

“Evan! Breakfast. Wake your sister.”

I sat in front my computer and looked at the never ending friend request that mysteriously all poured in from last night and my new relationship status. “Okay!” I shouted as a response.

I got up from my computer desk and reached on top of the tall stand to get my tam hat since my hair was a mess. I got it but it brought friends down with it.

A picture fell from it and drifted to the floor at my bare feet. I hesitated to pick it up but grew the balls to. Of course it was of me and Danny. But this time no tears fell; a smile instead curved onto my face when I saw it.

“Thank You.” I whispered and placed it on the night stand next to my bed with a picture of my dad. “The both of you.”

“Evan!”

I rolled my eyes. “Okay mom!” I screamed back annoyed. I put the tam on and headed to Ev’s room.

“Evelyn, breakfast whore.” She didn’t answer me back which was strange since she always had some kind of witty comeback.

“Evelyn are you okay? Bark once if you’re dead.”

She still didn’t answer. That’s it. I swung the unlocked door open and crashed and slipped over something on the floor. A head sprang up from the bed with flaring eyes. “What the hell Evan. Get out!”

I got up and groaned. “No. Mom said to come for breakfast. You know she’s leaving for a business trip.” I looked around. Her hair as in dire need of a hot iron and she had the sheet all the way up to her boobs. “Wait a second.” I murmured and looked down at what caused me to slip down. It was red and black polka dotted bra.

I gaped at it before returning my widened look of shock back to her. “Are you –Are you having sex with Chris?”

She turned pale. A gasp escaped me. “Oh my God. Chris get the hell out of there. You don’t know what kind of diseases you’ve just caught!”

“Ha-Ha.” she said, rolling her eyes. “It’s not what you think.”

I cocked my head to the side, “Not what I thi- Evelyn your bra is on the floor!”

She bit her lips as the other person rose up.

I nearly choked when they took the sheet off of their head. “Alex?!”

He smiled sheepishly. “Hey Evan, how’s it going?” he mumbled with a nervous laugh.

My jaw dropped and shattered to the ground. Evelyn tried to get up but Alex pulled her back when she started to expose his body.

Talking Déjà vu from my fiasco with Jacob. Oh my God. Evelyn has a Jock in Her Bed!

“I knew you were a slut but even for you this is love Ev. How could you do this to Chris?”

She bit her lip again and frowned. “I know, I know but he was there and I was there and one thing led to another and we…”

‘Bumped uglies? Oh my God. This could not get any worse.”

“Yes it can. I could have told mom you weren’t a virgin anymore.”

I gasped. “You didn’t.”

“Surprise?”

I growled. “Why I outta-.”

The door bell rang and stopped me from physically assaulting her. I composed myself for a minute and gave them both a stern look before jogging down the stairs. A smile etched onto my face when I remembered Jacob said he’s come over. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I mentioned his same now. Last night did something. Awakened something inside of me. Now, I just feel so happy. Maybe It was my turn to be happy.

I opened the door and K rushed in clutching his shoulder and seething through clenched teeth. “They shot me.”
