day2
The next morning was filled with splitting headaches, muggle paracetamol and a full english breakfast that Kate had made. Plates full of eggs, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, beans and toast.
Kate was setting out the table when people descended down the stairs.
“How are you not dead right now?” Alice asked with a groan and a rub with her temples.
“I took a shower and had some toast and medicine.” Kate replied. “I’ve also been up for like two hours.”
“I love you.” Marlene sighed into her full plate of food.
“I love you too Mar.” Kate laughed and began to fill up her own plate.
Now less zombie like, they all went up to get ready for the day. They knew that today was going to be slower as everyone was groggier than usual. Kate found herself on the small porch, through the double doors in her bedroom. She sat on one of the weaved chairs atop the wooden patio, looking out to the sea crawling up the beach. It was relaxing.
However, that serenity was interrupted when Kate saw some of her friends head down the shore, now disturbed, she made her way to see the small group that stayed up in the house.
“Hey, what are you guys up to?” Kate asked the group sat around the table.
“We’re just chatting.” Lily answered with a smile and pulled out the chair next to her.
“Yea, but about what?” Kate urged.
“Books, music, stuff.” Remus answered.
“Because that’s not vague.” Kate laughed as she sat down on the seat.
“How are you feeling after last night?” Asked Frank, leant on his elbows.
“I actually can’t remember much, just us moving to the living room.” Kate lied.
“Wow. You’re such a lightweight.” Remus snorted.
“Unfortunately.” She shrugged.
“What are the others doing out on the beach?” Kate asked after hearing screaming from outside.
“They’re getting in the sea, and from the sounds of it having fun?” Lily turned around slightly concerned and a laugh echoed around the table.

day3
Today the group decided to go down to the local town for the market. It was only a short walk to the town. It was small and quaint the stalls filled with fresh food and produce, little handmade trinkets, second hand clothes, books and vinyls.
“This. Is. Heaven.” James heard Kate breathe out as she took in the scenery.
The smell of the wooden stalls got stronger as they got closer to them as Kate floated over to the one filled to the brim with every fruit and vegetable imaginable. She was glowing. He watched as she gently conversed with the man at the stall and quickly handed him her money, stuffing an assortment into her basket. She had made her way to the second hand clothes stand, he hadn’t even realised that she’d realised his presence until she turned round with a shirt.
“You’d look nice in this.” She stated.
“Hmm?” He asked not completely listening, just wandering and staring.
“I said, you’d look good in this.” She repeated. The shirt was a button down with large palm leaves randomly placed over it.
“You think?” James asked.
“Yea, it’s summery, fits the weather.” She smiled.
“I’ll think about it.” He considered as Kate rummaged through the rack some more, until she wandered off to the next stall.
Small trinkets were laid out haphazardly across the table. He watched as Kate observed the table to see if anything caught her eye. He felt entranced by her even when she was simply standing.
He wanted her more than anything in the world.
–
“He’s just following her around. He’s whipped.” Frank said, staring at the two talking across the market. “He’s like a puppy dog.”
“But she’s oblivious.” Alice commented.
“We’d need to slap her in the face with it before she realised.” Lily snorted from behind them.
The group had all gathered around now, looking at the two in their own world.
“The day they get together is going to be euphoric.” Remus sighed while rubbing his forehead.
“I say we’re done shopping right guys?” Marlene smirked and had a mischievous look in her eyes.
“Definitely, they can make their way back on their own.” Dorcas quickly agreed with her girlfriend and everyone followed suit.
“Hey guys!” Sirius called them over from where they were stood. “We’re done shopping, we’re going to head back up now.”
“Ah. Ok, can I quickly go over and get something and then we can head up.” Kate asked pointing behind her to the stall filled with trinkets.
“Actually, Peter isn’t feeling too good so we’d rather head up now.” Lily explained.
“Oh.”
“But, James wouldn’t mind staying down until you’re done.” She interrupted before James could respond and they quickly scurried off back to the house.
“I’m sorry, you didn’t get a say. We can go back up if you like.” Kate whispered by looking at the floor.
“No, it’s fine. I love spending time with you. If it’s ok, could I go and see around for myself.” James asked sheepishly.
“Of course.” Kate said with the happiness from earlier creeping back up on her face.
The two then parted ways and Kate went to pay for the pair of earrings she spotted earlier while James
went and purchased the shirt that Kate had mentioned earlier. Making his way back to her, James spied a flower stall.
“Excuse me.” He started. “Could I have a small bouquet of lavender and lily of the valley please.”
“For your girlfriend?” The woman behind the stall asked and nodded towards Kate.
“Not yet.” James smiled at her, turning red.
“On the house.” The woman smiled at him sweetly and wrapped them in paper and gave him a quick “Good luck.” before sending him on his way.
Striding over to Kate who was waiting for him at the entrance to the market, he held his hands behind his back before greeting her.
“You ready?” He asked.
“Yea.” She said softly, still not excited as early.
“Do me a favour?” She raised her eyebrows.
“Close your eyes and hold your hands out.” James stated throatily.
“Absolutely not.” Kate deadpanned,
“Just trust me, please.” Asked James with a pleading look on his face.
“Fine.” And she did so, but very slowly as she was suspicious of James because of his usual antics.
Her shoulders fell when she felt something not wet and sticky in her hands.
“Open.”
Her mood lifted instantly by a million when she saw the flowers laid delicately in her hands.
“These are beautiful James.” She beamed, her face lighting up and her inhaling, “And they smell amazing!”
“Really it was no trouble. You weren’t you today so I thought I’d do something to lift your spirits.” He explained with a smile.
“Thank you.” She whispered into the flowers. “Consider my spirits lifted.” She chimed up at him. “And you get to pick what’s for dinner.”
Their walk home was spent in a warm silence, rejoicing in each others company.
She’d have an epiphany then. She’d been completely blind. He was everything she wanted forever and more. She’d buried it deep down for months.
She loved him.
He flirted with her constantly. James Potter made her feel good. But he was no.1 prankster, it was not real to him, just a continuation of the fake dating months prior. A joke. Entertainment. They’d never really be together.

day4
It was the last full day of their holiday. Leaving on Friday morning to go back to their normal lives away from the beach my bliss that had engulfed them for the past days.
The day was spent together as a group, having laugh after laugh, moment after moment, reminiscing on the past, as it was the last time they’d all be together for a while.
“Remember when we pulled that prank and stuck all of the great hall furniture onto the ceiling throughout the castle.” Sirius laughed while holding his side.
“That was a classic. Mcgonagall was so angry.” Peter barked out also laughing uncontrollably.
Everyone also joining in on the laugh, remembering the inconvenience it caused.
She’d spent hours slaving away in the kitchen, because as requested the last dinner “had to be amazing.” according to Marlene.
She had made a combination of everyone’s favourite food in a buffet style, spread out across the table.
The buzz of conversation flew around the room until Frank cleared his throat.
“I would like to say some words.” He stated and stood up from his seat and began to speak.
“Alice, the love of my life. The reason I wake up everyday. You have been my best friend since we met in the library and talked about the sleeping draught. You have made me. Made my Life.
Which is why I have to ask”
He got down on one knee.
“Will You Marry Me.”
Alice sprang up from her seat immediately.
“Yes! Oh my god! Yes!” She said with tears running down her cheeks as Frank slid the dainty ring onto her finger before pulling her in for a kiss.
Cheers erupted from everyone as they gleefully congratulated the now engaged couple.
Hugs were shared around the group, the rest of dinner quickly forgotten.
“I better be your maid of honour.” Lily said while she cried happily into Alice’s shoulder.
“Of course.”
Frank and Alice shared an intense hug once again and shared many a “i love yous” and kisses, while the girls admired Alice’s ring shining in the light.
Kate took this as her cue to sneak away. Slinking into her room and sank down with her knees to her chest and and sobbed into the crook of her elbow. Feeling that she’d never have that type of love.
–
He’d seen Kate leave the celebration, her mood deflated once again.
He had to tell her before it was too late. Before he lost her again.
He wanted Kate. For real. No fake, no rules, no getting back at anyone.
Just Kate and James.
