Now mid November the Scottish highlands were absolutely baltic. Unfortunately, Kate was sat in charms, instead of near the fireplace. The stone walls had no insulation, some professors were nice enough to use a warming charm. This one however, was not.
“I’m freezing my fucking tits off.” Kate said, shivering slightly and blowing into her hands.
“Maybe don’t do that, I do quite like them.” James replied, smirking.
“Oh shut up, you don’t have to do it when we’re alone.” Kate rolled her eyes at him.
“Do you not have a scarf?” he asked.
“No, I never got one. Expensive.”
James nodded in acknowledgment.
Kate was grateful having James sitting next to her, he made the dull theory lessons entertaining and the practical ones informative, even rising her grade from an A to an E.
“Ok, before we end, this homework assignment is a partner one.” A collective groan came from the class. “Your partner will be the person you are sat next to.” She stated.
“The assignment is to research a charm of your choice and to write 3 rolls of parchment and learn how to perform it. I expect it completed by the February break.” She finished.
James threw his arm around Kate, therefore warming her up a little.
“Oh no! You’re going to have to spend even more time with me.” He said with a fake pout.
“God, how am I to survive?” Kate sighed and brought her hand up to her forehead.
“Potter, Taylor! Stop flirting in the middle of class!” The professor interrupted.
“But professor.” James pointed at the clock ticking on the wall in a dramatic manner. “It’s the end of class.” He said, just in time for the bell to ring.
She didn’t look amused at his antics and rolled her eyes and regretfully muttered.
“I suppose you’re right Mr Potter, off you go everyone.”
Everyone piled out of the classroom.
“It’s so fucking cold.” Kate said as she caught up to her group.
“I know, I can’t feel my feet.” Dorcas added.
“Do you reckon it’s going to snow this year?” Kate continued.
“Yea, it does every year Kate, and you get just as excited every year.”
“That’s because it’s gorgeous.”
All of the girls were shivering, the beautiful bit horrifically old architecture of the castle made
it absolutely freezing. Just stone and old wood, letting in a draft from outside.
“What are we going to do for the rest of the day?” Marlene asked.
“I say we get in bed and stay there.” Alice suggested.
“I would, but I promised Amos that I would go and see him.” Lily added and pointed down the corridor with a shrug.
“Alright Lil, we’ll see you later yea?” Dorcas asked.
“Yes, you’ll see me later.” She said sarcastically and she rolled her eyes and started to walk away.
The group waved goodbye to Lily and continued their walk to the common room.
“But if we’re having a night in, what are we going to do about dinner?” Marlene asked.
“I could make us pizza?” Kate suggested.
The three girls whipped their heads around.
“Will you finally tell us where the kitchens are?” Alice asked and pointed at Kate.
“No! It’s my spot, and the elves like me.”
Disappointment is present on the three faces and their shoulders drop.
“I’ll make whatever pizza you want.” Kate bargained and bit her lip hopefully.
“Fine.” They reluctantly agreed with a huff.
“Only, only, because you’re great at cooking.” Marlene said with a slight threatening tone.
The group finally reached their dorm and collapsed onto their beds. The mattress’s swallowing them in with comfort and warmth.
“How long do you think Lily will be with Amos for? So I know when to head off.” Kate asked.
“Well, first they’re going to sit and talk and pretend they don’t want to snog. Then eventually, they’ll get to the snogging.” Alice said.
“Then they’re going to snog until Lily gets bored, and finally, when she remembers us, she’ll come back.” Dorcas finished.
“So around an hour ish?” Kate asked.
They nodded.
“Talking about snogging.” Marlene turned the attention to Kate and shook her head.
“We haven’t even properly snogged.” Kate lied.
“Then why we’re a group of Ravenclaws gossiping about it in my potions class earlier.” She asked.
“Ooo, how was it?” Dorcas asked.
“Like snogging.”
“But was it, romantic snogging, sexy snogging, rushed snogging?” Alice asked.
“There’s different types of snogging?” Kate said but quickly added. “Romantic, I guess.”
“You guys are actually so cute!” Alice said.
–
Kate knew exactly how she ended up being snogged pushed up against the wall. She had panicked when she saw Lily and Amos walking down the corridor and quickly grabbed James and leant against the wall as she roughly kissed him.
His hands gripped her waist and pushed her against the wall as he kissed her back. Kate dragged her hands up his back and tangled them into his hair.
The pair finally parted and were both panting.
“I think it’s been 10 minutes.” Kate stated.
“Yea, well at least people will now definitely get the hint we’re together.” He replied.
James’s lips were swollen and red, Kate suspected hers looked the same.
“Sorry about that, I saw Lily and Amos and panicked.” Kate said and James took a step away from her.
“Good thinking.” he said with a smile and grabbed her hand and started leading her away
–
“Enough about me, Marlene, Dorcas are you crushing on anyone.” Kate raised an eyebrow.
“No!”
“Also no!”
The two said way too fast.
“Oh my god, you are both crushing on someone.” Kate smirked.
“You’re not in a secret relationship like Kate was right?” Alice said and shot a glare at her.
“I thought we were over this.” Kate groaned and fell back onto her bed.
“We’re never getting over that.” Dorcas said.
“Ever.” Marlene shouted dramatically.
“Cmon! I said sorry. And i’m making pizza.” Kate begged. “Your favourites too.”
“You’re forgiven, incredibly reluctantly.” Alice said crossing her arms.
“No forgiveness, until I get a pizza in my mouth.” Dorcas said and pursed her lips.
“Exactly.” Marlene agreed.
Kate rolled her eyes and groaned as she got out of the warm comfort of her bed.
Quickly undressing and replacing her school uniform with a pair of red plaid pyjamas bottoms and a white long sleeved shirt with a small lace detail. Pulling the drawstring on the bottoms into a bow and slipping on her yellow duck slippers Kate headed out to finally make the pizzas.
–
Cooking was a relaxing task for Kate, and the fact the numerous times she had been left alone at home by her parents and learning to fend for herself.
Currently she was kneading the dough for the pizzas, leaving no clumps, then casting a spell to make the dough rise. Slicing it in two, and making two circles. Blending up the tomatoes and adding a little rosemary and pouring half on one pizza and the same for the other. Then the cheese.
Cutting up the peppers, onions, mushrooms and the jalapeños and then adding them to one pizza and pepperoni on the other. Adding even more cheese on top then sliding them into the oven.
The halls were quiet as Kate walked back, balancing the pizzas with both hands. Her footfalls echoed in the empty halls bouncing around the space. Then sets of footsteps could be heard around the corridor and the four boys known as the marauders walked around the corner carrying buckets.
“Oh hello.” Kate said as she came face to face with them.
“Why aren’t you at dinner?” James asked.
“Isn’t that kind of obvious?” Kate nodded her head down to the two pizzas.
“Did you make those?” Peter asked. “They smell good.”
Kate nodded at him.
“What are you guys doing?” She asked.
“Nothing.” Sirius replied.
“Ok well, if I didn’t see you, you didn’t see me.”
“Alright love, I’ll see you later.” James leant down and kissed Kate’s forehead. The boys then left with their buckets, filled with whatever.
–
Kate pushes the dorm door open with her hip.
“Pizzas done!” She said with a happy tone and placing them on the middle of the floor and all of them gathered around them. “How was Amos Lil?” In reality, Kate didn’t care how it went with Amos. Collecting information to share with James in their next meeting.
“It was fine.” Lily said.
“Only fine?” Asked Marlene through a mouthful of pizza.
“I don’t know, he just seemed distracted.” She answered.
“Probably the quidditch game that’s tomorrow.” Alice said. “Don’t be sad, eat the amazing pizza.” She moved a piece of pizza towards Lily’s face.
“Talking about quidditch.” Kate started. “If I put James’s number on my cheek, is that weird or cute.”
“Cute.” They said.
“Weird.” Marlene interjected.
“I was thinking about putting ribbons in my hair too, for support.”
“You totally should. He’s a romantic.” Lily answered.
“Ok, I will.” Kate said with a small smile.
