“I’ve missed the city.”
Day closed his eyes, letting the wind ruffle his hair to its own accord.
“Can’t say the same,” Mhok glanced at Day, who sat beside him in the car.
Day just shook his head, enjoying the change of scenery instead.
The cab pulled up in front of a fancy restaurant. Mhok got out of the car and quickly rushed to Day’s side, guiding him out of the car.
“I could’ve borrowed Derek’s car,” Mhok muttered in a sulky voice.
Day shook his head, “I don’t want it. I like this better.”
“Whatever you say,” Mhok walked with Day.
“How did you find this place?” Day loosened the grip on Mhok’s arm. He didn’t want too much attention from people. He didn’t want to announce to the world that he was blind.
“I checked on the internet. The reviews were great,” Mhok smirked at Day, “Also, it’s our first time in the city together, so it has to be grand and memorable.”
Day tried to hide his growing blush, “Let’s just go.”
Entering the restaurant, they occupied the place that Mhok had reserved for them.
Some people stared at them, noticing that Day was blind but Mhok couldn’t care less.
They could judge all they want, he was not going to let Day know that.
“What do you want to order?” Mhok enquired.
“Hm,” Day thought for a while, “Steak?”
“Sounds good. I’ll order the same.”
The food arrived in minutes, and they digged in.
They were in their own world, which comprised only the two of them. They engaged in simple conversations as they relished the meal.
It felt like a date for either of them, but they didn’t admit it openly.
“I want wine,” Day announced.
Something clicked in Mhok’s mind, “Ah, now I see why you wanted to take the cab.”
Day gave a sheepish smile, “Why? Don’t you want any?”
Mhok rolled his eyes playfully, “Someone has to stay sober.”
Day scoffed, “I’m not going to get wasted. Just a little drink to celebrate this evening.”
Mhok shrugged, “Fine, let’s drink. A little.”
He ordered a bottle of wine. Day’s eyes lit up, and Mhok figured that he could never deny anything that Day wanted.
Mhok poured the thick red colored liquid in a wine glass and passed it to Day, “Here, have your drink, Sir.”
Day giggled, “Thanks.”
They talked about random things as they drank. Their laughter becoming more frequent being the only indication that they were getting drunk.
Mhok pulled out his phone and clicked a picture of Day as he laughed. Mhok admired the photo; Day looked absolutely adorable and carefree with his flushed cheeks and nose.
“I took your photo,” Mhok admitted, “It’s cute.”
Day pouted. The alcohol already kicking in his system, “Too bad I can’t see that.”
Mhok regretted disclosing that information to him, “You know you’re handsome. Do you really have to see it to know?”
Day shrugged, “Fair enough. I know that I’m quite a catch.”
Mhok laughed aloud, “Woah! Someone’s cocky.”
“I mean, how can I not be? I’m soooo attractive.” Day slurred his words.
People were glancing at them.
“Okay, that’s enough, Mr. Attractive.” Mhok pulled the near-empty bottle from Day’s reach.
It was already night by the time they stumbled out of the restaurant. Mhok called a taxi, and they started off to their home.
“Stop here,” Day demanded abruptly.
“But, we are not home yet.” Mhok informed him.
“No, I want to walk from here.”
“Why? Let’s just get home,” Mhok tried to persuade him.
“No,” Day shook his head stubbornly, “Let’s take a walk, P’Mhok. I know we’re only five minutes away from home.”
Mhok had to give in now.
The car halted, and they got out.
“What now?” Mhok huffed.
“We walk.” Day laughed.
“You’re impossible.” Mhok held onto Day, who was struggling to walk straight.
“Thanks.”
“That was not a compliment,” Mhok couldn’t help but smile at Day’s adorable antics.
Day pouted and stuck out his tongue.
Mhok laughed at that, “Let’s get home, okay?”
They walked for some time before Day said, “I’m tired.”
Mhok rolled his eyes, “Whose idea was this again? This whole walking thing.”
“Was it mine?” Day scratched his head innocently.
Mhok sighed, “Get on my back if you’re tired.”
“Yayy, a piggyback!” Day climbed on his back, with his feet dangling by Mhok’s side.
Mhok, who was drunk himself, was carrying another drunk man who was almost his size. No wonder his body became so exhausted and tired in just a minute.
Mhok panted heavily, feeling that his legs would give out.
He stopped when he saw a bench close to the streetlight.
“Let’s rest for a while.” Their home was just a minute of walk away now.
“Nooo, I like this.” Day whined.
“Ha, sure you do.” Mhok made Day sit on the bench before he sat himself.
“This is crazy.” Mhok laughed.
“Crazyyyy.” Day laughed as well.
“Gosh, you’re wasted. Such a low alcohol intolerance.” Mhok shook his head.
Day scrunched his nose, “I’m not wasted just a little tipsyyy.”
“Sure.”
They sat there for a minute before Day said, “Are you really leaving?”
Mhok’s head snapped towards Day in shock, “You wanted me to.”
“That’s not true.” Day pouted again, “I don’t want it, but you have to. They are your family. You have to see them.”
“I know.” Mhok sighed.
“But,” Day put his hand on his chest, “It hurts here. I don’t know why.”
Mhok was confused by Day’s actions, causing him to sober up little by little, “Why?”
“That’s what I asked,” Day giggled.
Mhok shook his head. He lost count of how many times he had done that gesture today.
“Don’t leave me,” Day’s eyes teared up.
Mhok’s heart ached, “Why?”
No matter what, he had to know. He had to know why Day was acting so strange. He wanted to hear it from Day’s mouth before he jumped into favorable conclusions by himself.
“Because,” Day blinked multiple times.
Mhok’s eyes turned glossy, “Because?”
“Where’s your face, P’Mhok?”
Mhok sighed. There was no point in talking to a drunk man.
“Where is it?” He whined again.
“Here,” Mhok guided Day’s hand to his face.
Day cupped his face with both hands, “This is your face?”
Mhok could almost laugh, “It is, Day.”
“Because,” Day said.
“What because?” Mhok asked, forgetting about their previous topic of conversation.
“You asked me why? That’s why I’m answering with because. Remember?”
Mhok finally deciphered what Day was trying to convey, “Yes, tell me why?”
“Because,” Day dragged on again.
“Alright. Let’s go. We’re not getting anywhere with this.”
Day tightened his grip on Mhok’s face.
“Because I like you!”
Every fiber of Mhok froze.
“W-What?” He couldn’t believe his ears. Was he too drunk?
“I like you, P’Mhok.” Day repeated, firmly this time.
“In what sense?” Mhok didn’t want to get fooled and get his hopes high.
“In a romantic sense.” Day said confidently.
“Are you drunk, Day? Let’s go home.”
“I am drunk, but I’m saying this with a complete conscience,” Day’s voice turned softer, “I do like you, P’Mhok. That’s why I don’t want you to leave me.”
“H-How?” Mhok was at a loss of words.
“I don’t know how,” Day caressed Mhok’s face that was still his hands, “I just do.”
Mhok tried to think of something to make sure that Day was indeed fully conscious of the impact of his words.
“Do you completely realize what you’re saying?” Mhok sighed, “What was the name of the restaurant we just went to?”
“Elite Palace.” Day said monotonously, “C’mon, P’Mhok! Stop that, and believe me. I’m in my right mind.”
“But- “
Day cut him off with a kiss on the forehead.
“Trust me, P’Mhok. I like you.” Day cast his head down and then looked at Mhok, “Do you feel the same?”
Mhok noticed the utmost sincerity and nervousness that reflected his Day’s eyes. Mhok didn’t question anymore.
By some miracle, Day liked him too.
“I-I like you, Day.”
Mhok confessed finally. He wanted to do that for a long time.
“Do you really?” Day asked in surprise.
“Yes, I do.”
“In what sense?” Day was still unsure.
Mhok smiled, “In a very romantic sense.”
They were smiling even as the tears ran down their faces.
Mhok’s hands landed on Day’s face as he caressed it lovingly. He didn’t want to take advantage of Day’s intoxicated state.
“For the last time, are you drunk, Day?”
Day rolled his eyes, “Shut up.”
Mhok chuckled, “There’s only one way to check if it’s a dream. Can I test that?”
“Go ahead.” Day smiled, knowingly.
He ran his thumb along Day’s cheek, admiring the beautiful man whose face was flushed.
Mhok’s breathing became ragged as he slowly inched towards Day. His heart was throbbing with anticipation and nervousness.
Their breaths blended together when their lips were only centimeters apart.
“Day,” Mhok closed his eyes, “I love you.”
With that, he pressed his lips against Day’s. Mhok melted into Day’s mouth. It was nothing like he had dreamed for a long time. The reality was much, much better.
Now that he had tasted Day, he couldn’t stop himself. Day reciprocated his passion with the same intensity. Mhok nibbled on his lips for the longest time before intertwining their tongues. They poured all their feelings into that kiss, leaving no room for insecurities or uncertainties.
Day gently tapped Mhok’s shoulder, and Mhok immediately got the message. He detached himself from Day, leaving him breathless.
They pressed their foreheads together, closing their eyes.
“Will you leave me, P’Mhok?” Day asked in a low voice.
“Never.”
