The second day of the final military exams. We were mixed up. All 250 trainees. We were given a physical fitness tests. They were 8.
The first one were sit-ups in a limited timeline. Same as push-ups. Then a 4 kilometer run. We moved to the obstacle test which I was so focused on passing. Sergeant Chase had really prepared us. I could tell other trainees struggling and it meant something to see the male trainees struggling when we were so prepared.
Sergeant Chase gave us things harder that what they were giving us.
Like the swimming tests were easy. I remembered to imagine myself in the field. Any little mistake, my team could lose their lives. The last test of the day was a body fat percentage measurement and we were free to go.
The next day we had written exams. I was anxious and I worried I would fail. If I failed, I would not be able to go with Sergeant Chase home. She won’t be impressed either.
“I know I said I hate Sergeant Chase but I love that woman” Lola exclaimed when we were coming from eating dinner walking in our bays to finally rest.
“Why the change of heart?” Dawn asked
“Imagine my surprise when that officer said, 80 push-ups, 2 minutes. Sergeant Chase had us doing 100 in 110 seconds. That woman had me ready for anything” Lola rolled her neck clapping her hands at last.
“I won’t argue with you on that. I know I passed that physical fitness exam. Now, I just hope I remember information we studied for the written exams.” Jaimie moaned dreading the exam.
“Just close your eyes and remember one of your nightmares. Sergeant Chase telling us all that shit in her weird twisted way. Hell I wish I could forget” Alice chuckled rubbing her eyes.
“I will never forget Sergeant Chase. I might need some soft treatment and some love to feel normal again. I think her aura is rubbing off on me” Maddie sighed with a whole serious expression that made us all laugh.
“I know we should study but I think we should sneak out tonight. We are leaving this place in a few days and IÂ feel like you guys are my family now” Dawn pouts pushing herself to hug Jaimie.
“Ey, remove your little paws from me Dawn. Don’t go soft on me now” Jaimie tried getting the girl off but Dawn was a clinger.
Her grip was very strong when it came to getting her dose of affection.
“I’m not a dog. I don’t have paws”
“You are more of an adorable tiger. Good looks but viscious” Sureya compliments which got Dawn smiling.
“Thank you Su” She moved from Jaimie and went to hug Sureya instead.
Maybe she was right. They were my family now. It felt like we were really close and we knew each other’s strengths and qualities.
“So we sneak out the night before a difficult exam, I’m so in” Lola dropped on her bed with a sigh.
“I got something to get us…a little more chill.” Alice smirked moving over to her bed. She got out her small bag then pulled out three toothpaste tubes.
“You want to make us feel better with Colgate?” I spoke for the first time.
“No Papi. Just…give me your hand” Sureya coaxed.
I hesitantly gave her my hand and she screwed the cap over and squeezed the tube between her fingers. Crushed weed landed in my palm shocking me and the rest of us.
“Aw Sureya I love you so much” Jaimie went to throw her hand over Sureya’s shoulder but she got scratched by Dawn.
“She is mine. Back off”
We chuckled at their behavior. Sureya was beautiful. She had Mexican features and an ass that shook even in those military pants. It was weakening to watch her walk or bend over.
“So you have three tubes of weed?” Lola whispered so the rest of the trainees would not hear us.
“No, I got cocaine in this and some good old gamma. Our drug tests are over so why not” Sureya shrugged.
“I will stick to weed. The rest lasts longer in the system and I can’t get caught” Maddie crossed her arms worried.
“Wellll, gamma is the thing. It completely vanishes from your system after you fall asleep. It’s untraceable”
“Well I’m down”
We all agreed on the untraceable liquid drug. 1 hour after curfew, we snuck out the window. The seven of us.
I thought about Sergeant Chase. If she knew I was out here sneaking out to get high on some unknown drug, what would she say?. Would she be disappointed in me?.
That’s why she was never going to find out.
We climbed over the trees and sat up in brunches completely relaxed. Sureya got out the toothpaste tube and opened the cap.
“Just three drops on your tongue then swallow. Don’t take more than that”
She was first to go. We took turns dropping the liquid in our mouth. It burned at first then my tongue felt cold after I swallowed.
“How long before it kicks in?” Lola was so impatient.
“A few minutes. You will be feeling everything at once then numb and maybe horny maybe feeling so good. Be patient” Sureya rested her head against the tree trunk behind her. The tree had these huge brushes surrounding it in a circle.
It was so cool.
The perfect hangout spot for us.
“I can’t believe we are leaving this place without having a single relationship” Alice mumbled.
“I have a sexual relationship with Loyd, from the male trainees. He is hot but I don’t do commitment” Maddie confessed a little too honestly.
I was starting to feel it. My heart pumping faster, my skin hot and I couldn’t explain it. But I remained still
“I have fucked about 8 people since I got here. In my defense I was heartbroken over…someone” Jaimie snapped her eyes at me.
“Wait, you were heartbroken?. Is that why you were always trying to throw a tantrum fighting Aidan?” Sureya was too honest, wow.
“She broke my heart so…”
Oh alright, we were telling people our secrets now?.
“You guys had something going on?. I gotta say I don’t see it…” Maddie stared at me then Jaimie.
“True, I couldn’t imagine the two of you as a couple. You have this sisterly sibling rival going on” Alice slurred or maybe I thought she slurred.
I had no idea. We kept talking and I felt good. Calm. So at peace and definitely horny but the feeling was welcomed. Conversation blurred and I had no idea what time it was.
Dawn told us about her abusive family. Alice told us about her family bring deported and her being the only official American citizen. Maddie told us about coming from the foster home straight to the military.
Jaimie spoke about her mother’s death. Sureya mentioned how her family was killed in a robery in front of her. Lola told us she grew up a street kid and all the things she went through. I had no choice but to open up about my past.
My family and the war and everything that happened. The drug was slowly starting to fade when I was talking about Jaimie’s father and everyone was just asking questions. I accidentally blurted out what happened.
“…he was so disgusted he forced himself on me and I…I was so powerless”
“Wait what?” Jaimie looked horrified.
I snapped out of the hazy feeling. The thing was, we felt safe enough to share which must have been the reason I easily admitted Jaimie’s father raped me but now I regretted it.
“Uh…”
“No, Aidan. I want you to be honest. Did my father molest you?”
The whole group was now silent. I contemplated lying but I wanted to say it out loud. To set myself free. Keeping the secret made me feel dirty because that meant I was too weak to confront what had happened.
“Yes. Uh the night you confessed about loving me. He didn’t just confront me with a gun. He raped me and told me if I didn’t leave, he would have to set you straight”
Jaimie remained silent for a whole minute then she moved from the brunch.
“I need to pee”
She swung off the tree and jumped down to the ground. I felt guilty and terrible.
“Hey, it’s okay. You talked about it and maybe that affected Jaimie to realize her father is a monster. Give her a minute”
I didn’t know what to say so I nodded and we just sat in silence the high fading off. Then I heard a scream.
“Did you hear that?” I sat up in alarm.
“Jaimie…” Sureya mumbled.
“It’s been over over 20 minutes. That was definitely a scream. We need to go” I swang off the brunch and jumped off.
The rest followed behind me as we ran bust the leaves in the direction I beard the scream come from. Then I heard groaning sounds and the sound of deep male laughs I remembered all too well.

I heard deep voices speaking and the sound of…
I sped up and jumped on the first person I saw without a second thought. Jaimie was tied against a tree, one of the guys with his pants down to his knees. I grabbed his shoulder my eyes seeing red.
I didn’t know what happened. I knew I grabbed him and threw him down. I was so blinded, I heard the sound of something cracking under my boots. I remember the guy fighting back and I remember plunging something in his neck.
Then everything was silent.
Someone shaking me, got me out of my trance and I blinked a few times.
When I looked at my hands, I saw red liquid, fresh blood. The scent of fresh blood hit my nose and I was so scared to find out what I did.
I kind of had a feeling of what I did but I wanted to confirm. I turned around to see the guy who was… who was doing what he was doing to Jaimie lying with his head against the roots of a huge tree.
There was a stick plunged in his neck. His eyes wide and mouth wide blood sipping out. More blood was coming from his forehead which had chunks of bloody flesh poking out. A rock the size of his head was next to his head. With blood.
What the hell did I do?
