WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE?
“Aidan stop pacing and twisting your neck. She will be here soon”
We were 30 minutes before the graduation ceremony starts but the most important person to me was nowhere in sight.
Something was wrong. I could feel it deep in my cut that something was not right. I tried to breath out and calm myself down but I needed Sergeant Chase to be able to feel calm and safe.
I was nervous and my stomach hurt from the rising panic.
“Maybe she is close by dealing with paperwork. This is our day. We transform from being civilians to being soldiers.”
Jaimie was right but fuck her words meant nothing to me if Sergeant Chase didn’t show up to hug me before the ceremony. She knew me better and my body just felt safe with her close by.
Maybe I was too attached and I depended on Sergeant Chase but to me, she was my safe place. Could be bombs going off around us but if Sergeant Chase held me and told me she would take care of me. I would believe her.
Because they were not just words. Sergeant Chase showed me nothing would happen to me, not when she was around. To other people, it was just some pillowtalk but to her and I. It was the truth.
I was her baby to keep safe.
Fuck my tough soldier exterior. With Sergeant Chase all of that was just a layer of me, not who I was.
“Aidan stop freezing up and pacing. Seriously, is Sergeant Chase your life support?” Lola rolled her eyes.
“You are making us more nervous Aidan. Please stand by and wait until we have to take our seats.” Alice rubbed her hands together trying to calm down.
“Our families are here.” Dawn walked to us.
“Damn you look hot with the uniform” Sureya blurted out.
Their flirting and sexual tension was something we all ignored but anybody with common sense could see it in the blink of an eye.
“And you look delicious” Dawn smirked kissing Sureya’s cheek.
“So this is it?” Maddie looked down at her uniform.
“Yeah I guess this is it. I am happy that we got here but I’m sad to know our team will be separated. I know damn well if we worked together out there, we would be fire” Jaimie chuckled and we all nodded.
“We were a good team.” Alice smiled and they all did.
“Aidan would you stop with the blank scary face?. We are having a moment here” Lola scolded me.
“She is mad cause her wife is not here yet” Maddie sighed.
“I’m sorry guys. I know I’m bringing the mood down but I can’t help myself. She knows how to calm me down and right now I feel as though I might pass out. It’s our graduation day and I feel as though something will go wrong but if Sergeant Chase walks up to me and tell me it’s all good. I just need to see her” and felt my tears sting but I was about to be a soldier do I put on my cold face mask.
“I’m sorry Aidan. She will be here but for now let’s go take our seats” Dawn side hugged me.
“I still don’t understand how that terrifying sadistic woman can be capable of calming you down. Every time she looks in my direction, I almost feel physical pain” Maddie wince In recollection.
“You guys are just weak. She is is sweet” I smile remembering all the private moments we have had together.
Though a few but they matter to me more than a thousand memories others usually have with their lovers.
Sergeant Chase and I met in different circumstances. Most people need months to like someone, go on dates until they create that special moment to get together. Maybe because they have better lives than they seem to notice.
We were soldiers. Our lifeline was going to start to be lived a day at a time knowing at any workplace or mission. We could be dead.
Plus I would have accepted a ring from that woman the second I saw her for the first time.
Fucking hell she drove me crazy.
“You can trust her with your kitten and your heart. Not all of us are masochistic” Dawn glared at me.
I laughed.
Then a trainer came to settle us down and I was back to twisting my neck every second checking if Sergeant Chase finally arrived.
My leg bounced on its own as the clock reached 11am and our ceremony started. I tried to remain seated, fighting with my racing mind that needed to see Chase.
We were seated on wooden chairs opposite to families then the generals in order of their power sat on the right. 4 generals stood next to the set up podium in front of everyone.
Senior Shepherd was first to talk.
“We are gathered here today to graduate our recruits who worked hard day and night to be strong and ready. To be taught the values of being a soldier and protecting our nation. After watching them go through months of difficult evaluations and getting strengthened to be able to protect citizens of our nation. These young civilians are ready to officially be soldiers. And we…”
He went on and on with his speech before the general commander took over and gave speech about who we are expected to be and so on.
Sergeant Chase was still not around.
After all 4 generals were done, it was time to March. I prayed for my legs to stay strong. I was not okay.
I needed her.
Where are you Chase?
We stood in 5×50 lines as we got ready to much. After we marched. We took an oath swearing allegiance to our nation and military branch. We got past the first salute and I was holding back tears.
I could not cry unless it was in her arms.
“Now that our new soldiers have finally been.. “
Footsteps came in from all directions. I was confused as I looked around to see who were all surrounded by FBI agents and CID officers. I could tell them apart by their uniforms.
My heartbeat increased.
“This is FBI. Put your hands where we can see them!!!”
I was confused. What was going on?.
Why were FBI agents at our graduation?. My mind went to the murder we committed and I felt sweat run on my back as they commanded us to raise our hands up.
“Fuck” I heard Dawn cuss under her breath hands shivering in the air.
We were fucked.
Please Sergeant Chase, where are you?.
Agents moved towards all of us and my heart stilled. My breath was held in my throat as I watched almost in slow motion agents walk our way.

….
Complete silence and I knew we were going to jail for a long time. I braced myself to be cuffed.
But they passed after us going over to the generals and officials in front. My eyes widened as all of them had their hands forced behind their backs and I heard the sounds of cuffs locking.
What was happening?.
I was beyond confused.
“General Jonathan, you are under arrest for recruiting, harboring and trafficking recruits for forced labor, exploitation of civilians. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford ….”
I heard them read out their rights in front of us. The general commander had a smirk on his face then he whispered to the female FBI agent that had arrested him. She laughed at whatever he said and whispered something back to him that made the generals face fall.
The agent was blonde. Very scary looking. She stepped in front of the podium.
“I am special Agent Rebecca London. I am with the FBI. We apologize to ruin your graduation ceremony but this camp was supposed to have been closed years ago. We have been investigating the disappearance of young people who were believed to have been recruited into military training only to turn up dead a few months later. This camp was an illegal operation and we finally found only this one thanks to Sergeant Chase who contacted me directly”
The families made comments and asked questions all at ones while all 245 of us digested what the fuck she was saying.
Was she telling us all this was for nothing?.
“From the information we received from Sergeant Chase. You were all trained and are ready for graduation. There is a file with all your training information that I’m supposed to receive. After I have received the file, you will be recorded in the system as soldiers then go through your post graduation plans like the rest of any others in the army.”
While everyone was confused and struggling to swallow the truth. I was looking at Agent Rebecca waiting for the opportunity to ask her where Sergeant was.
“Agent London, we have a situation”
I watched him whisper something to Agent Rebecca London then her face twisted into a pained expression that I did not like.
She excused herself and I decided to follow her.
