The whole week Aidan stopped slacking around and I could tell she was one strong young woman. Maybe she reminded me of myself when I was training.
After that week we got to the 6km Grenade practice, the stretcher carry drill field practice and church drill. They were used to waking up at 3am now that I would arrive when they were done with their beds.
Jamie got more competitive but I loved how that nature pushed her to train harder. They were stronger with each day. Whenever it was a partner training I made sure to pair Aidan with Jamie and they seemed to get on each other’s nerves.
“Alright, today we are doing additional weapons training. I want each one to stand in your mark holding your firearms.”
They all stood in the right posture their guns pointing towards the targets. I wanted to see their accuracy despite the fact that they went through weapon handling training in the first 3 weeks.
“You have 5 targets. The goal is shooting at the fifth bottle right behind without shooting the rest. Then the 4th to the 3rd and you know the drill. Cruza, please start”
Jamie smirked and grabbed the M-22 rifle then stood in her posture. I went behind her.
“Your elbow should be pointing down” I moved my hand over her waist helping her stand the right way.
I stepped back and I just looked in Aidan’s direction to notice her jaw locked as if she was grinding her teeth. Aidan always acted weird sometimes. I just assumed it was her character and that was okay with me.
Why else would she get angry at the sight if me helping Jaimie?.
I looked back to see Jamie shoot the last bottle in the back, the second from last one by one until the one on front.
“Alright Cruza, good job. . Who is next?. Geoma” That was Dawn Geoma. Honestly, she was the clumsy one. But my secret favorite.
The girl shook her head nervously pleading with her eyes.
“You are next, Geoma”
The girl took her posture and held the firearm the correct way then began to shoot. She only shot the second one instead of the third one but she was good.
“Next! Burton!”
Alice got th right except she missed the last bottle.
“Next! Black!”
Aidan took her posture.
“What Is the problem Black?. Your elbow is pointed down and your grip is loosened?” I stepped on her side.
She swallowed nervously trying to hold the gun tighter.
I went behind her and helped her figure. I didn’t even hear her breath. When I stepped back she was sweating.
“Are you left handed?”
“Y.yes. yes Sergeant” She was always so soft when she spoke to me.
“Speak up!”
“Yes, Sergeant!”
“Change your posture and show me how you hold your gun!”
Aidan changed her posture in a way she was holding the gun with her left hand on the forestock and her left hand on the grip. I internally smiled then stepped back. I noticed the way her body seemed to relax as if she was breathing out.
Hmm I made her nervous.
She took a shot and got the first one right. I didn’t know why I felt like I wanted her to get it right. I felt like I was too focused on Aidan among all of them.
She missed the second shot then accidentally knocked the third one and the fourth one at the same time. She even missed the last one too.
I frowned at her performance.
“OH wow, not so good now huh?” Jamie picked at Aidan smirking
“Not right now Jaimie” Aidan warned the girl.
“You are weak. You shouldn’t be here. At this rate, you will get all your soldiers killed and…” Jamie moved closer and whispered something to Aidan.
To my surprise Aidan suddenly threw a punch at the cocky girl.
They started fighting and I just stood there. I wanted to see how they were going to sort it out. They got on the ground and Aidan sat on top of Jamie who looked overpowered then stopped herself.
She sighed and muttered something we all couldn’t hear to Jamie who pushed her off. Aidan walked off leaving Jamie on the ground.
What did Jamie say to make Aidan mad?. They had their snaky comments before but this seemed to be more.
“Alright who is next?”
As much as I wanted to check on the angry girl I decided to put my duty first while she cooled down. Plus I had to speak to Jamie about their little hate relationship.
The rest of my trainees finished the task. Some got it right and some struggled. I dismissed them for dinner but asked Jamie to stay.
“I am training you to be a soldier not to become a mean girl actress. If you have opinions and comments that does not include my training, I suggest you don’t do it on my time” I spoke sternly keeping my expression cold.
“I’m sorry Sergeant, won’t happen again”
“No it will not. For that little fight you will join Black for your punishment tomorrow”
I turned away going in the direction of the military house. I took an hour rest then decided to go where Aidan always was. She ran to the lake everyday. Something told me she wanted that rematch with me.
I jogged through the forest until I reached the lake. I looked around for her but I only noticed her uniform and boots. I sat back waiting for her. I saw her swimming back after a few minutes.
She was a really good swimmer. I watched her get out the water.
“OH shit” I looked down when I noticed she was completely naked.
“You shouldn’t be doing that here all alone. You know military men are not all good” I stated still looking down.
“I…uh Sergeant. I’m sorry you saw that” Aidan stammered shuffling. I guessed she was getting dressed.
“We are all women it’s alright but getting naked with men around here is not the best idea” I looked up when the shuffling stopped.
She was putting on her coat.
“I just needed to calm down and swimming helps” Her face was red.
She looked really embarrassed.
“Come sit with me for another talk” I moved around my boots in the sand as she sat down next to me.
“I keep on messing up, don’t I?.” Aidan asked looking at the sun that was setting.
She looked beautiful in this light. Her wet hair was put in a bun but it was a messy bun with a few hairs out. She was….

Okay what the fuck did my mind just say?
Nope, that never happened.
I did not just think my trainee was beautiful and cute.
Back to the point. I had to stop looking at her face.
“You are usually calm and I didn’t want to get involved with the problem between you two but you got in a fight during my training session. You disturbed others with that disruption” I pointed out.
“I don’t know why I snapped like that…she just… she got to me” Aidan avoided looking at me.
“What did she say that got you to react in such a violent manner?” I was really curious so I kept looking at Aidan’s side profile waiting for an answer.
Her ears, her neck and the cheek I was looking at. They all turned crimson. Well that was a very unusual reaction.
“I’m sorry Sergeant. It will never happen again” She dodged the question.
I could have pushed but something in my gut told me I was not going to like the answer so I gave up asking and just repeated the same thing I told Jamie. We sat in silence just looking at the water. The sun had gone down completely and it was getting dark.
I stood up.
“Meet you there in 10?”
“Sure” Aidan smirked confident this time.
She was fucking cocky.
“Wait, do you need help with your weapon handling?. Everybody else got it so I can not repeat a lesson but I can give you a one on one session” I offered.
She smiled. With a her teeth then she immediately smacked her lips.
“Yes.” She responded a little too excitedly then cleared her throat “I mean yes Sergeant. That would be really helpful” Aidan rubbed the back of her neck.
So adorable.
