Ricky x Y/N

Fluff

.

“Y/N?”

You were having dinner with your best friend, Tiff, after work one random weekday when you heard someone call you. You turned to the source of the voice to find the person you never expected to see at this moment—Ricky.

You and Ricky were neighbours who went to neighbouring secondary schools. You knew each other but were barely even acquaintances. Until one rainy day, he offered to share an umbrella with you after seeing you struggling without an umbrella at the bus stop near home. From then on, you started striking conversations when you bumped into each other on the way to and back from school. And eventually, it became a part of your daily routine to travel to and from school together with Ricky.

You had to admit that you had a little crush on him back then. But it all ended when he moved to the US that summer.

You managed to keep in contact for the first few months, but from some point onwards, you never heard from him again. You thought of all the possibilities but never got to know the true reason. He vanished from your life just like that.

“It’s really you, Y/N. Do you still remember me? I’m Ricky, Ricky Shen.”

How could you not remember him? You just thought you’d never see him again.

“It’s been so long, Ricky. How have you been?” You were surprised to learn that he still had the ability to make your heart skip a beat.

“Yeah, it’s been too long. I just moved back from the US. Let’s catch up sometime soon.”

Ricky handed you his phone, and you put in your phone number for him before he left you and Tiff alone.

“Who is that?” Tiff squinted her eyes at you.

“Just an old neighbour.” You couldn’t really find the right words to describe your relationship with Ricky.

You thought he didn’t mean it when he said he wanted to catch up, but you got a message from him that night, asking if you were free that weekend.

He suggested to go to the Japanese restaurant the two of you used to go to, and that was where you met up with him for lunch. He was already there when you arrived. You didn’t get to look at him properly the other day, and now that he was sitting across from you, you couldn’t take your eyes off him. He used to be just a couple of centimetres taller than you, but by the looks of it, you probably needed to lift your head to look at him if you stood next to each other. And he definitely was not this hot ten years ago. Especially with his hair dyed blonde, he looked crazy hot. You didn’t think you had met someone who suited blonde hair better than him.

You didn’t even realise you were staring until he broke the silence. “I should probably start by saying sorry. My phone got stolen back then, and I lost all my contacts. When I came back to visit the next year, I went to your home to find you, but I heard that you had moved away to another city.”

You sighed, feeling that everything had just not been meant to be.

That night, he joked about memorising your phone number just in case his phone gets stolen again.

“Are you seeing anyone at the moment?” He casually asked before dropping you off at your home.

“No. You?”

“Me neither.”

Maybe you were a little, just a little, happy to learn that he was single.

.

A lot had changed, yet it felt like nothing had changed. You started messaging each other daily, going about the most random topics and telling each other about moments that the other had missed out on in the past 10 years. You’d meet up for dinner from time to time, and you were falling for him all over again.

.

It was White Valentine’s Day, which was none of your business, really. Your task today was to take care of your nephew, Alfie, so that your sister and your brother-in-law could go on a dinner date. You didn’t mind at all, because Alfie was absolutely adorable.

“Alfie, you’re my Valentine for today.” You gave Alfie a huge smooch on his cheek after his parents dropped him off.

‘Are you busy today?’ Your phone buzzed, revealing a message from Ricky.

‘Yes, I’m on a date. Wanna meet my boyfriend?’ You replied.

You have a boyfriend?’ You could almost hear the panic and shock in his tone, even though it was a text message.

You then sent him a photo of Alfie with a caption. ‘Isn’t my baby handsome?’

‘Not as handsome as me.’

You laughed out loud, seeing his narcissistic response. ‘Where does your confidence even come from?’

‘Can I come find you later? I bought you some souvenirs from my business trip to Japan.”

“Thanks! Sure, come over whenever.”

About half an hour later, your doorbell rang. You went to open the door with Alfie in your arms. You let Ricky come in and asked him to look after Alfie while you went to make Alfie some milk.

When you came out of the kitchen, you saw the boys having the time of their lives while drawing together.

“Alfie seems to like you a lot.” You sat down next to them.

“It’s hard not to like this handsome face.”

You rolled your eyes at him. “Please don’t grow up to be as narcissistic as this uncle, Alfie.”

After Alfie finished his milk, you went into your bedroom to tuck him in while Ricky stood at the door.

“Will I see Uncle Ricky again?” Alfie asked you before he went to bed. Okay, maybe it was true that no one could resist a handsome guy like Ricky.

“Of course. Just tell Aunt Y/N, and I’ll come play with you,” said Ricky.

Alfie went to bed with a content smile after hearing the response he wanted to hear.

Your sister and brother-in-law came to pick Alfie up a while later.

“Alfie’s asleep in my room.”

“Thank you so much for taking care of him, Y/N.” Your brother-in-law said.

“Don’t mention it. That’s what families do. You know I love spending time with Alfie.”

“You have a guest?” Your sister spotted Ricky’s pair of shoes at the doorway and looked at you with a cheeky look.

You gestured to the figure in the living room. “Do you remember Ricky?”

“The neighbour who moved to the US?”

“Hi, long time no see.” Ricky came to the door and greeted your sister.

“Wow, I wouldn’t recognise you if I saw you on the street. You’ve grown so much. It’s nice to see you again. This is my husband, by the way.”

“Nice to meet you.” Ricky held out his hand to shake your brother-in-law’s.

“Okay, I should probably go and get Alfie. Talk to you later, Ricky.” With that, your sister and you went into your bedroom, leaving Ricky and your brother-in-law.

“My wife has been worried about Y/N because she hasn’t brought a boyfriend home in years.” Your brother-in-law told Ricky.

“I’m not Y/N’s boyfriend yet.” Ricky scratched the back of his head.

“I’m guessing the ‘yet’ means you’ll soon be?” The two men exchanged a meaningful grin.

You then came out of the room with your sister and Alfie in her arms, completely unaware of the conversation between Ricky and your brother-in-law.

“Enjoy the rest of your night.” Your sister winked at you before leaving.

“Do you want to go for a walk?” Ricky suggested.

“Sure.” You grabbed your wallet and keys and left the apartment.

The streets were still filled with couples wherever the two of you went, despite it being late already.

“Young man, want a rose for your pretty girlfriend?” An old lady stopped Ricky as you two passed by her temporary stall on the roadside.

Ricky glanced at you before taking out his wallet. “Sure, I’ll get one.” He had zero intention to correct the old lady for addressing you as his girlfriend.

He handed you the rose timidly as you continued your walk.

“Tha…” Your hands stopped midair while reaching for the rose.

“Accepting the rose means you admit that you’re my pretty girlfriend.” He cleared his throat and said nonchalantly, but his palms were already sweating from clenching the rose.

The world was silent as you processed his words.

“So do you want me to take it or not?” You teased, getting him flustered there.

“Of course I want you to take it.”

“Then thank you, my handsome boyfriend.” You took the rose from him and ran off with it.

He froze in place, feeling heat rising from his chest to his neck, all the way to his cheeks. And when he could finally react, he chased after you, shouting with excitement, “Hold up, girlfriend!”

You ran even quicker out of embarrassment. You were pretty sure that everyone on the street heard him shout. Ricky caught up to you in no time and surrounded you with his arms from behind.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

You turned your head and looked at him like a child who got caught. He pecked your lips without any forewarning, making you flustered this time. Your whole body stiffened, and your eyes widened to the fullest extent. Before you knew it, he landed his lips on yours again. This time a bit longer than the first one. And when he realised you were finally looking back at him, he sealed your lips again for the third time, to which you responded sweetly despite still being shy.
