Taerae x Y/N
Fluff
.
You felt this excruciating pain inside your head the moment you woke up, and the room started turning in circles. You had been feeling aches in your bones the night before, but you didn’t think it was anything serious. You lumbered into the bathroom to find the thermometer, and like you expected, you were having a fever.
You took some Panadol from your medicine cupboard before lying in bed again. You called your manager to tell her that you were sick and kindly asked her to make arrangements accordingly. After that, you fell asleep again, and when you opened your eyes, it was already late in the afternoon.
You looked at your phone and saw messages and missed calls from your boyfriend, Taerae. He sounded concerned about not hearing from you since the morning. You avoided the talk about not contacting him in the morning and continued the conversation as if nothing had happened. You didn’t want him to worry about you, especially when he had been having pre-recording sessions after midnight for four consecutive days. Not to mention the actual shows during the day and the fan signs after that.
You stayed at home the rest of the day to rest, hoping that would help you recover as quickly as possible. Fortunately, the fever had gone down by the next morning, though it still wasn’t completely back to the normal range. You assessed your condition and thought it’d be fine to work since you only had one schedule today.
You got ready while preparing for the radio show in the afternoon. Alongside your career as a solo singer, you hosted a radio show, which was also where you met Taerae and fell in love with his voice and him.
You felt fine until half an hour before you had to head out to the radio station, which was when you felt the pain in your head returning. It was definitely too late to call off work and find someone to replace you. You knew you had to go with it. You took another round of medicine, hoping that it would help you hang in there for the next couple of hours.
Yet, in the middle of the radio show, you started having cold sweats and were getting dizzy again. Your professionalism forced you to keep going; you couldn’t imagine what would happen if you collapsed during your live radio show while interviewing an idol group.
Once the live had ended, you had used up the last bit of your strength as well. Your manager, who had noticed your unwellness, came dashing into the studio to check on you immediately. Meanwhile your guests, who hadn’t noticed any unusualness in your condition during the interview, were left dazed.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to show such an embarrassing side of me.” You said weakly.
“No, no. Please don’t feel that way.”
“I’ll interview you guys in better condition next time.”
“Thank you, Y/N-nim. Take care of your health, and we hope you get better soon.”
“Good luck with the remainder of your schedules.” You watched them out with a frail smile.
“Gosh, take care of yourself first.” Your manager placed her hand against your forehead. “You are burning hot. You should have just rested for another day if you’re not feeling well.”
“I was fine this morning.”
“Let’s go to the hospital. You’ll feel better once you get an IV drip.”
“It’s okay. I’ll just go back home and rest up.”
“No, it’s not okay.”
“You know I hate the wait in the hospital. I’d rather be comfortably in bed at home.”
She sighed and eventually gave in. “If your fever doesn’t go down tonight, I’ll make you go to the hospital whether you want it or not.”
“Okay.”
“Does Taerae know that you’re sick?”
You shook your head sheepishly.
“I’ll text him later to tell him.”
“Unnie!” You whined. “You’ll distract him from work if you tell him now.”
“Remember how angry you were when he didn’t tell you he was sick? He’ll want to know, Y/N.”
“But…” You were conflicted, but you knew your manager was right. “Okay, but can you ask his manager to tell him after he finishes work? And tell him you’d be here to take care of me, so ask him not to worry.”
“Aigoo, what an annoying little couple.”
.
How could Taerae not worry, though? He hurried to your home right after hearing about you from his manager.
Your manager looked towards the door as she heard the sound of turning keys.
“Taerae-ya.” She sort of expected him, knowing nothing could really stop the boy from coming to see his ill girlfriend.
“How is Y/N?” Taerae’s face was all scrunched up, showing how concerned he was.
“Her temperature has gone down a little, but she’s still feverish.”
“She needs to go to the hospital if her fever continues.”
“I was going to make her go to the hospital after the radio show today, but she didn’t want to, so I thought I’d drive her back and observe.”
“Why did she go to work if she was feeling so unwell?”
“She said she was feeling much better this morning.”
“Better? So she was already sick yesterday?”
“Yeah… She didn’t want you to worry. And she knew you would come to see her; she didn’t want to pass it on to you. I have already told her off for hiding it from you.”
“Noona, I’ll stay with her tonight. You should have some proper rest, too.”
“Are you sure? You still have schedules tomorrow. And if she gives you the flu bug, she’s going to feel awful about it.”
“I’ll be careful. I’ve gotten permission from my manager, so it’s fine.”
“Okay, I’ll come back tomorrow then. Make sure she takes her medicine once more before you go to bed. And don’t stay up taking care of her. You also need rest.” Your manager was a manager after all. She gave Taerae a few more nags before leaving.
You felt a hand on your forehead in your dreams. You thought it was your manager’s at first, but unlike her slim and petite hands, this one was big and warm. You squinted your eyes open and saw Taerae. You thought it was part of your dream until you reached towards his hand and felt it with yours.
“How are you feeling?” Taerae caressed your head while sitting on the side of your bed.
“Why are you here?” You mumbled drowsily.
“I wanted to see you.”
“Don’t stay here tonight.”
“Worry about yourself first. You need to take your medicine.” He sat you up and handed you your pills and a cup of water. “Are you feeling better now?”
“Yeah, even better now that I’ve seen you.” Your body was weak, but he still managed to put a smile on you.
“Promise me that you’ll go to the hospital if your fever doesn’t go down tomorrow, okay?”
“Mhm.” You nodded with a pout.
“You have to get better so that I can kiss you.” He caressed your lips to stop you from pouting.
“What good does that do to me?”
“You must’ve gotten a lot better seeing that you have the strength to bicker with me, huh? Now, go back to sleep.”
“I’ve been sleeping for the whole day. Let me look at you for a little longer. I think I might get better just by looking at you.”
“You’re cute even when you’re sick.” He tapped your nose gently with his index finger. He then snuggled into bed and hugged you from behind, placing his chin on top of your head. You fell asleep comfortably in his embrace.
.
“Good morning!” As soon as Taerae was woken up by his alarm, he was met with your smiley face and sweet voice. He felt your forehead once again and breathed a sigh of relief when he felt the heat was gone.
“I’m fine. My fever has gone down.” You caught his hand.
“You thought it was gone yesterday, too. Then it became worse.”
“Can you at least turn off your alarm first?” You chuckled. “Don’t worry about me, okay? I’ll be at home all day. I’ll do nothing but rest, I promise.”
“It breaks my heart to see you sick, so take care of yourself, alright? I’ll try and come again tonight.”
“You don’t have to. I’ll rest well so that you don’t have to worry about me. So please don’t run about for me and make me worry about you. You didn’t even have proper rest last night; you kept waking up to check my temperature.” You cupped Taerae’s face with one hand. “Now, you’re going to be late if you don’t start to get ready.”
He left a kiss on your forehead and got out of bed to wash up. Before he left, he crouched down next to the bed to check your temperature with a thermometer one last time.
“I have to go now.”
“Don’t miss me too much.”
“I won’t.” His actions said otherwise —planting another kiss on your forehead before heading out for work.
“But I will.”
