kim gyuvin x reader
maybe it was the distress of the date that had gone wrong that day, but suddenly gyuvin wasn’t as annoying anymore. maybe he was even sorta cute?
you trudged home sullenly in the rain, with nothing but a white zip-up hoodie for some shelter. you couldn’t stop the grimace that made it’s way onto your face as you felt your socks begin to get wet.
you shouldn’t have left the house at all today.
you had agreed to go on a date with a boy from your physics class, only to figure out halfway through the evening that he was using you.
he needed to pair up with someone smart for the final year project.
apparently he couldn’t just ask you because the pair of you had never spoken before, so he thought it would be a better idea to pretend he had a crush on you instead.
his guilt got the best of him about 20 minutes into the night however and he ended up spilling everything.
you scolded yourself for even believing for one second that someone would want to go out with you. then you scolded yourself again for putting yourself down over some stupid boy you had never had a proper conversation with until today.
you began to worry as the rain only started to come down even harder and you were still a while away from your apartment. the sky was dark and rumbling and the hotel across the road was starting to look appealing.
your phone vibrated in your pocket and you pulled it out, making sure it didn’t get soaked as you did. the notification was only about a new update of a webtoon you were currently invested in but your phone lockscreen gave you an idea.
the lockscreen in question was a picture of you and your best friend gunwook.
you could get to gunwook’s in five minutes if you ran and it was completely free unlike the hotel so you took off. feet slamming into the puddles on the ground, the murky water coming up to splash at your ankles.
you hoped that gunwook had opted to stay in that particular friday night, but as your hands dropped to your side after knocking and the door flew open you realised, with much dismay, that he hadn’t.
you almost rolled your eyes at the sight of gunwook’s roommate gyuvin leaning against the door cooly as if he hadn’t nearly, decapitated you with the way he swung it open.
“hey loser-.”
“is gunwook here?” you cut him off, not in the mood for the usual banter the pair of you shared.
“could you at least pretend you’re glad to see me.” he frowned teasingly, still not noticing the obvious distress in your expression.
you ignored his question and looked past him to call for gunwook, you got no reply. your hair was soaked at this point and your clothes were beginning to stick to your skin.
“he’s not here. he’s probably gonna stay at hao and hanbin’s place till this weather gets a bit better.” gyuvin finally told you, gesturing outside.
you bit your lip and lifted your hood back up over your head. “oh okay. i’ll be going then.” you turned around to begin your long walk back home.
gyuvin was quick to take a hold of your hand and pull you back towards him. “what kind of a person would i be if i let you walk home alone in the rain.”
his voice was quite low and he was closer to you than he had ever been. you scoffed at the boy in an attempt to hide your flustered disposition.
gyuvin smirked at you. “come on.”
you wandered in through the door right behind him.
the date must have really fucked you up because you had never in your life (willingly) agreed to hang out alone with kim gyuvin.
it was a known fact by basically everyone that gunwook’s two best friends weren’t too fond of each other.
“you didn’t talk to gunwook before coming?” gyuvin asked, interrupting the comfortable silence that had fallen over you.
“i didn’t have time to because of the storm, i just wanted to get somewhere warm.” you muttered, shivering slightly in your wet clothes.
“you were more than happy to walk off just now.” he quirked an eyebrow up at you. you weren’t able to quip back though because he had already disappeared into his room.
you stood awkwardly by the door. it was as if you had never been there before. it just felt awkward without gunwook.
gyuvin returned moments later with a pile of clothes in his hand. “here, get changed into something dry.”
you nodded and thanked him softly before fleeing into the bathroom to get changed. you smiled softly as you recognized the shirt he had given you as one you remembered saying you liked when gunwook asked the both of you to try and be civil for a day. you pulled it on and the pair of sweats he had given you along with them.
you waited a short while before emerging from the bathroom. head held low as you sat on the couch without looking at gyuvin although you could feel his eyes on you.
you coughed awkwardly and then finally made eye contact with the boy. “thanks again… for letting me stay i mean. and the clothes.” you offered him and sincere smile.
he gladly reciprocated the smile. “no worries.” he stopped himself from adding in a cliché line like ‘they look better on you anyway’ even though they did.
“so wanna tell me why you showed up on our doorstep so late in the middle of a storm.” gyuvin asked grabbing the tub of ice cream he had discarded on the coffee table when you knocked on the door and then stuffing a spoonful of the treat into his mouth.
“it’s embarrassing.” you said silently, fiddling with the strings of the sweatpants he had lent you.
gyuvin had never seen you so quiet and apprehensive. your strong personality always shone through, especially around him. “c’mon y/n.”
you caught your bottom lip between your teeth and shook your head. “just this guy.”
gyuvin couldn’t hide the shock on his face, he didn’t know you were seeing anyone. gunwook had never mentioned it and on top of that he was surprised all this distress was at the hands of some boy.
the brown haired boy’s eyes hadn’t left your form for a while. he had never seen you look so upset, maybe once when gunwook had accidentally cracked your phone screen. he bit the inside of his cheek.
“wanna tell me what happened?” gyuvin pressed on.
“what so we’re buddies now?” you joked and that familiar sarcastic tone was back.
gyuvin grinned. “nah, i’m just nosy.”
you rolled your eyes but decide to confide in him anyways because with your best friend not around he was the only one you could talk to.
“this guy from my physics class asked me out and i was so excited and then today on the date, he confessed that it was all just a stupid ruse so i would partner up with him for a project worth half our grade or something.” you tried to say it as nonchalantly as possible but it was obvious to gyuvin how much you actually cared.
it was in the way that you fiddled with your fingers anxiously as each word left your mouth, your true feelings seeped through.
“that’s a seriously shitty thing to do.” gyuvin commented.
you shrugged picking at your nails. “i guess. i should have known.”
gyuvin nudged your knee with his. “hey, don’t say stuff like that.
it’s weird. you and gyuvin acting all nice to each other but you think you like it, just a little. your heart skipped a beat as the next few words left his mouth.
“anyone would be lucky to be with you y/n, capiche? that guy is a douche. you look so pretty today too.” he sighed while saying the last bit shaking his head.
you laughed breathily. despite yourself, heat crept up your neck until it reached the top of your ears and warmed up your cheeks.
now he had to be lying, your make up was ruined and splotchy from rain when you had arrived at his doorstep and your hair a mess.
“so i’m not pretty all the time?” you replied.
“you are, you didn’t hear that from me though.”
if you didn’t know any better you would say kim gyuvin was flirting with you.
you cleared your throat.
“wanna watch a movie?” he offered smiling cheekily, your reactions to his advances giving him immense joy.
you nodded silently. gyuvin got up from his comfortable position on the couch to retrieve the remote before sitting back down. he fiddled with it as he looked over to you, “what do you wanna watch?”
you shrugged. “anything, i’m not picky.”
gyuvin scoffed at that, he remembered the time you him and gunwook had tried to go watch a movie. (another one of gunwook’s attempts at getting you two to be civil with each other.)
you had decided to make things difficult when the movie had been chosen and say you wanted to watch some new action movie when gunwook and gyuvin had already picked ‘the conjuring’
in the end you all did end up seeing the random action movie, which gyuvin slept through.
“i beg to differ.” he finally said rolling his eyes playfully.
you gave him a look and he just turned back to the tv smiling to himself.
“gyuvin, no, no, no please.”
“you said i could choose anything.”
“yeah, anything but ‘the conjuring’ i thought that was a given.”
he ignored you as he clicked on the play button.
you were never a big fan of horror movies. i mean you could sit through them most of the time. but when the title credits saying ‘based on a true story’ came up you were out of there.
“gyuvin, i cant. please can we watch something else.” you begged.
“no. we watched that action movie you wanted that one time. now we’re watching this.” he replied stubbornly.
you reached over him to try and get the remote but he stretched back and held it away from you reach.
“what if i get a heart attack from one of the jump-scares and die? are you willing to be held responsible?” you questioned still stretching your arm to get a hold of the remote.
you’ve practically toppled into gyuvin at this point.
“you’re so dramatic.” he said, voice barely above a whisper tone.
gyuvin was looking at you now. you could feel his gaze but chose not to look back at him. you also chose to ignore the way your heartbeat had increased rapidly as you became hyper-aware of how close the pair of you were.
he finally handed you the remote and you took it gratefully. you took a deep breath before meeting his eyes.
the two of you were in a rather compromising position.
you kept the hand not holding the remote on gyuvin’s chest to keep yourself from falling into him further but his hand had moved to your waist and it felt like he was leaning in closer and closer.
gyuvin had never seen you look flustered so many times before today. he had to admit it was a very welcome change to the annoyed y/n he was used to.
“my t-shirt looks very good on you.” he finally gave in to the cliché.
your mind went all fuzzy because here you were lips a few inches away from gyuvin. feeling shy over a compliment gyuvin had given you, for the second time that day!
you were so certain you were going to kiss him.
and then the door opened and just like that the moment was lost and in a panicked frenzy you had been pushed to the other side of the couch.
“y/n?”
“gunwook! hi, hey um what are you doing here?”
you questioned stupidly trying to look as casual as possible and like you weren’t just about to kiss gyuvin a second ago.
“i live here.” he chuckled, finally entering the living room and closing the umbrella he had been holding.
gunwook pulls down his hood and looked at you expectantly
“oh yes, you’re probably wondering what i’m doing here. well i was just coming back from that date i told you about and then i got caught in the rain so i was like ‘why don’t i go over and check if i can stay at gunwook’s place’. you weren’t in but gyuvin was kind enough to let me stay so. yeah.”
gunwook and gyuvin were sure you had beat the world record of rapping 10.65 syllables per second in that very moment.
“why are you acting like you just got caught doing something you shouldn’t have been?” gunwook looked at you sceptically.
you cursed him for being so perceptive and laughed shiftily.
gunwook grinned. “well anyway, i’m glad to see you guys didn’t bite each other’s heads off while i was out.”
you and gyuvin looked at each other and then back at gunwook without saying a word.
“okay.” gunwook filled the awkward silence.
“wanna see that new game on my pc y/n, the one i was meant to show you yesterday.” he nodded his head towards his room.
“oh yeah, sure.” you got up from the couch and tossed gyuvin the remote you had fought so desperately for. he caught it with ease.
“bye.” you gave him a soft smile that made his heart do backflips and cartwheels and whatever other tricks gymnasts do. it was a smile that held a thousand words but the most prominent ones to gyuvin were ‘thank you’ and he was glad he was able to cheer you up even just a bit.
“see you later.” he saluted you.
gunwook observed the exchange, obviously very amused. he wondered what had happened while he was out that had caused this sudden, drastic change between his best friends who normally couldn’t go a second without arguing over something dumb.
your best friend let you walk ahead of him politely and then turned around to raise an eyebrow at gyuvin only to find the boy’s gaze was focused over his shoulder. his undivided attention was given solely to you.

gunwook shrugged on his jacket and toed his shoes on at the door as he prepared to leave the house to go meet up with you at the museum.
“where you going?” gyuvin suddenly appeared by the front door.
gunwook furrowed his eyebrows at his friend who also looked as if he was about to head out.
“to see y/n, we’re gonna go check out that new exhibit at the museum i was talking about.” gunwook explained, one foot already outside the door due to his excitement.
gyuvin reached for the door handle too. “can i come with?”
gunwook practically froze in his tracks. he was confused for two reasons.
1. gyuvin had never shown interest in the exhibit which gunwook had been droning on about for the past three weeks.
2. did gyuvin not hear that gunwook was going to see you. y/n.
“to the museum? with me? and y/n?” the dark haired boy’s eyes narrowed in suspicion as he pointed outside, then at himself and then scratched his head.
gyuvin nodded eagerly.
“you sure?” gunwook was still in disbelief but he held open the door for gyuvin to walk out too nonetheless.
with this and the fact you and gyuvin had survived the other day before he got home without ripping each other’s heads off he was beginning to have hope his two best friends were finally getting along.
he just didn’t know how well.
“yeah! it sounds interesting. i just hope y/n won’t mind.” gyuvin walked out of the house happily swinging his hands back and forth.
when the two of them arrive at the museum you’re engaged in a conversation with one of the workers at the front desk. you and gunwook had always been very interested in this sort of thing.
gyuvin felt his heart thump in his chest as he watched the way your eyes shone.
gunwook called out your name as they grew nearer.
you turned towards them and smiled at gunwook, waving wildly. then you noticed gyuvin and your eyes widened a bit in surprise.
your smile was still there but shyer.
you waved at gyuvin too and he waved back.
“hey guys! gyuvin, i didn’t know you were coming…” you trailed off as if looking for an explanation and he grinned sheepishly.
“i thought it sounded cool.” gyuvin replied simply and you raise an eyebrow at him and then looked at gunwook who shrugged and smiled.
you decided not to try refute the claim with any snarky comment about how he wouldn’t last a second in the museum with fidgeting and asking to go home, you definitely thought it though.
“let’s go in then! i heard they got in some dinosaur bones from the natural history museum in america.” you beckon them over and as you see said bones you gasp and grab at gunwook’s hand.
“it’s a triceratops’ skull.” gunwook said wide eyed and he lifted up his hand despite the fact it was still holding yours and pointed at the skull through the glass.
your hand had practically disappeared under his large one and gyuvin felt his heart twist with jealousy.
the wretched feelings didn’t last long however because you swivelled around to look at him. “gyuvin come see.”
he smiled at that, walking to stand beside you and get a closer look at the artefact.
gyuvin is shoulder to shoulder with you. this is the closest the pair of you had been since that day and you can’t help but let your eyes drift over to his features for a bit.
he was so cute. he puffed out his cheeks adorable as he examined the little placard with a bunch of information on the triceratops.
you don’t get to admire gyuvin for very long because almost immediately he returns the eye contact and you step back.
“ouch.” gunwook cried as you step on his foot removing his hand from yours and you winced at his pain.
“sorry wook.” you said apologetically ignoring gyuvin’s chuckles behind you.
the day dragged on and gyuvin started to regret tagging along at times due to how bored he was but then you would flash him a little smile and all would be well again.
you yawned and stretched walking over to gyuvin idly as gunwook walking into a room filled with recovered items from the titanic that you had already explored many times before.
“bored?” you questioned tilting your head cutely.
gyuvin scratched the back of his neck and his ears went a little red. “is it that obvious?”
you laughed loudly. “to be fair, you lasted longer than i expected. that’s why i wanted to ask the real reason you came.”
gyuvin stuffed his hands in his pockets and rocked back and forth gently.
“you. i wanted to see you.”
straight to the point.
you certainly weren’t expecting him to be so forward and so you practically choke on your own saliva. “me?”
gyuvin nodded, his lips upturned slightly at your reaction. “you nearly kissed me the other day.”
“me?” you repeated but this time a little offense was in your tone at the accusatory words.
“you tried to kiss me kim gyuvin. i was trying to get a remote.” you replied defiantly.
now there’s the y/n and gyuvin that we all know and love!
“you were practically begging me to kiss you.” he teased and you didn’t notice him getting closer to you because of how riled up you were.
“you’re making stuff up.” you tried to maintain a stern expression but failed miserably.
“am i?”
now you’re aware of how close he is and how tall he is and you curse him for practically caging you in.
you can only gulp and bite back any other words on the tip of your tongue because you realise you trying to fight back was only giving him more satisfaction.
“what, you realised i was right?” he asked playfully and his voice was so attractive it pissed you off, he still didn’t break eye contact with you.
you don’t back down from the staring competition this time. “no because conversations go nowhere with you.”
gyuvin finally loses the staring competition to flicker his eyes down to your lips. the lips that he couldn’t stop thinking about kissing since the last time he saw you.
“let’s stop conversing then.”
and before you know it his hand is cupping your jaw while his other drifts past the small of your back to pull you closer. he captured your lips in a kiss and you think it’s almost embarrassing how fast you kiss back.
kisses with gyuvin are just what you would expect them to be. sweet and playful, he smiled as soon as he felt you return his affection. you’ve tilted your head for him, allowing him to deepen the kiss and he pulled away, giggling against your lips.
“told you, you were begging.”
“you said were. i just started now.” you said matter of a factly.
his thumb rubs affectionately over your bottom lip and just when he’s about to peck your lips again out walks gunwook.
your best friend’s jaw is on the floor. you’re surprised he doesn’t get whiplash from how fast he snaps his neck around in shock.
“what the hell happened that day—”
***
“gyuvin i’m actually going to slap you.”
he nuzzled his nose into your cheek and smiled. “no you’re not.”
oh how he underestimated you. with one flick of your wrist his head was shoved out of the way and he pouted before groaning in pain.
“yes i am.” you rolled your eyes playfully as you get back to the project at hand.
gyuvin sat cross-leggged, dejectedly a couple feet away from you as he watched you try to concentrate on crafting one of the gifts you would be giving gunwook for his birthday.
gyuvin had been helping, but ever since the pair of you started dating he could not go 30 minutes without your undivided attention.
it was currently minutes 37. he was starting to feel dizzy.
he fell flat onto his back dramatically and sighed loudly.
when you continue with the task at hand, he raised his head at little to peek at you before sighing once more.
“gyuvin.” you warned.
the frown on his face remained as he sat up again.
“we’ve been working on this present like all day, gunwook’s birthday isn’t for another week.” gyuvin protested.
“stop acting like an overgrown puppy.”
gyuvin leaned over stretching his long limbs to grab you by your waist and pull you into his lap.
“five minute break.”
you can’t hide the smile on your face no matter how hard you try. “fine.”
gyuvin started an attack of kisses on your right cheek and neck, you giggled and squirm away from his hold.
he paused for a moment.
“are you gonna do something like this for all of my birthdays?” he asked cheekily.
you stayed silent for a moment just to tease him and gyuvin went back to pouting. you giggled and began to trace shapes on his gigantic palm.
“you’ll just have to wait and see.”
you didn’t tell him about how your heart warmed at his word choice and the prospect of him being certain you two would spend many more years together as a couple.
but gyuvin could read you like a book, the way your eyes shyly went downcast and your grin widened just a tad.
“if you don’t kill me before then.” he added in jokingly.
and you elbowed him hard for ruining the sentimental moment you were having in your head.
“ow!”

i would like to use this a/n to urge you to SPEAK UP about the genocide happening in Gaza right now and to fight for a free Palestine.
this is a humanitarian crisis. this is genocide.
https://free-palestine.carrd.co.
do something. pressure your government officials, boycott, share and spread information about the horror of what israel is doing to Palestine.
it’s literally the least you could do. Palestinians are begging us to listen, to help.
we are lucky to be born in a generation where we can all help to shine light on the truth. we will not allow world leaders to try and flip the script. we must amplify Palestinian voices.
it’s so easy for all these deaths happening to become nothing more than rising numbers. remind yourself that every single one of these lives taken is just that: a person’s life, full of hopes, dreams, and goals.
countless lives have been stripped away from adults and children alike and continue to be every second this continues.
remember it is a privilege to wake up this morning, warm and comfy in our beds whilst Palestinians are constantly living in fear wondering whether they will live to see another day, constantly facing terrifying violence by the apartheid state israel.
Palestine belongs to the Palestinians.
from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
thank you for reading.
