jiwoong devises a foolproof plan to try and figure out if hanbin has any feelings for you.
“trouble in paradise?” jiwoong questioned cheekily sitting down beside you at the back of the lecture hall. your frown deepened as you directed your gaze over to him. “everything is fine.” you said crossing your arms. “not that there is any paradise to have trouble in…”
jiwoong raked a hand through his hair giving you a knowing look and you sighed, hating the pitiful look on his face. your eyes returned to the person you had been focused on before he had arrived and you pouted.
“i’m gonna be stuck in the friendzone for the rest of my life.” you mumbled sadly, pulling yourself away from the image of a flustered hanbin surrounded by a group of people giggling at everything he said.
jiwoong couldn’t help but chuckle at that. you fixed him with a glare that silenced him in moments though. “am i doing something wrong? i mean, how can he not see that i like him and why does he act so cute and sweet around me if he doesn’t like me back, it’s so confusing. jiwoong i can’t.”
jiwoong smirked. he shouldn’t have been as amused by all this as he was but cut him some slack; netflix had cancelled his favourite drama the week prior he needed some entertainment in his life and you and hanbin were an excellent source of that.
“maybe it’s because you’re making yourself too available. he knows you’ll always be there for him and needs a wake up call to realise his true feelings.”
you raised an eyebrow at jiwoong. with the way he spouted all that out almost immediately anyone would think the guy had dealt with situations like this millions of times.
“how would i do that?” you asked curiously, resting your chin in your palm as you listened to jiwoong intently. the man in front of you’s lips twitched up into a mischievous grin as an idea formed in his head.
“tell me what you’re thinking.” you whined impatiently as you could practically see the gears turning in his brain.
jiwoong rolled his eyes as if his plan of action was the most obvious thing in the world. “it’s clear you haven’t been watching any of my show recommendations,” he huffed turning his head away from you for a moment, “because if you were you would have come up with this idea yourself. i mean it’s one of the oldest tricks in the book.”
you were still completely lost however. jiwoong sighed, “you make him jealous.”
you smacked jiwoong’s shoulder. “i thought you actually had a good plan.”
jiwoong winced rubbing at his shoulder blade. “first of all ouch and second of all it is a good idea.”
you shook your head, fiddling with a loose thread at the end of your sweater sleeve. “i don’t think he would really care.”
jiwoong tilted his head at you, “well there’s only one way to find out and if he doesn’t react i will personally hook you up with the finest bachelors i know to get you over him.”
you cackled at that. “okay, okay. let’s try it.”
“let’s? since when am i included in this?” he asked, baffling you as you blubbered for a bit struggling to find words to fight back.
“you came up with the plan. you help me carry it out, plus who could i even ask and how would i even approach them. c’mon jiwoong.” you begged.
he chuckled. “i was just kidding around. of course i’ll help.” he sighed dreamily. “i can have my second male lead that everyone likes more than the actual male lead acting moment.”
you rolled your eyes playfully at him before smacking him upside the head.

“you look pretty.” hanbin smiled his whisker dimples on display as he approached you on matthew’s doorstep.
you blushed and bit back a small smile as you waved your hands dismissively. “thank you.” however the air was still quite tense and you were certain you weren’t the only one feeling it.
hanbin leaned over you and knocked on the door.
his close proximity as he knocked had you inhaling his nice cologne and face to face with his chest. your eyes flickered over his tattoo. the sun, star and moon that painted his collarbone and you felt your breath catch in your throat.
needless to say you were more than glad he wasn’t looking at you at that moment, you were sure your expression would be a dead giveaway of the huge crush you harboured for him.
or maybe it wouldn’t. considering he was so oblivious.
the door opened and you were greeted with matthew himself. “hey guys!” he smiled cheerfully waving you in.
the boy was notorious for throwing house parties every other weekend and you guys were lucky enough to be best friends with him and were invited to every single one.
it also included showing up a bit earlier to help him prepare.
you scrunched up your nose a little as you spotted jiwoong behind matthew and attempted to send him a message with you eyes saying, ‘don’t go too overboard’ but alas jiwoong had apparently never attended a class of y/n’s school of eye contact communication.
he gasped dramatically and called out for you.
you concluded that if he had taken any classes at
y/n’s school of eye contact communication he would have failed every test.
“hi jiwoong.” you took his hand and he pulled you towards him. “you look gorgeous, guys doesn’t y/n look gorgeous.”
you resisted the urge to roll your eyes but couldn’t help the laugh that left you once you took a glance at your friend’s faces. jiwoong didn’t wait for their reply and proceeded to wrap an arm around your shoulders.
“let’s go set up in the kitchen y/n.”
jiwoong smiled down at you and despite never having felt anything romantic for him ever, your heart fluttered. you were certain as soon as all of this was over he would never let you forget about his oscar nominee worthy acting.
“but me and y/n usually work together.” hanbin protested and the pout that rested on his lips made you want to give up on the plan and run over to him.
jiwoong’s grip on your shoulder tightened a little as if he could sense you about to break. “sometimes a little change is good hanbin. plus me and y/n have a lot to talk about, so..” jiwoong trailed off in a sing-song tone. “we’ll get to work now.”
jiwoong lead you to the kitchen and you left without sparing another glance at hanbin.
hanbin didn’t like the feeling he got in his stomach watching jiwoong be all clingy towards you.
matthew nudged the sullen boy gently, “wanna go add some songs to the playlist.”
hanbin sighed softly before nodding. “what’s up with them?” he asked matthew as the shorter boy handed him a phone with spotify already open.
“dunno, i think i missed a couple chapters but maybe jiwoong has a thing for y/n now. either that or he’s just kidding around.” matthew replied nonchalantly, unaware of the panicked state he has just sent hanbin’s brain into.
dozens of images of you and jiwoong dating flashed in his mind and he couldn’t put his finger on why it made him so upset.
meanwhile in the kitchen jiwoong was hopping around like a mad man.
“y/n did you see him? we’ve barely started our plan and he’s already cracking.” he grinned proudly. “keep it down you hooligan.” you covered his mouth.
“he is so very obviously totally into you.” jiwoong said, voice barely above a whisper tone now, but that shit eating grin was still on his face.
you giggled at his excitement, “let’s not get carried away.”

the party was in full swing and you had been glued to jiwoong’s side the whole night.
hanbin hadn’t even been able to say a word to you.
he had ignored the advances of every guy and girl at matthew’s house in favour of watching you and jiwoong closesly.
his grip on the bottle he was holding tightened as he watched jiwoong move down to whisper something in you ear and the way you giggled and pushed him away playfully. your cheeks tinted a pink he thought was reserved only for him.
“woah there buddy.” matthew swiped the bottle from hanbin. “since when did you become such an avid drinker.” the canadian gestured towards the huge bottle, taking a swig for himself.
hanbin clicked his tongue and then scratched his neck. “i don’t know.”
the answer was blunt and unlike him. matthew followed his line of vision and saw you leading jiwoong to the dance floor and nodded slowly in understanding.
“are you… gonna tell her?” matthew asked nudging his friend to regain his attention.
hanbin snapped out of the trance he was in and turned to properly face him. “tell her what?”
“that you like her.” matthew took another sip of the alcoholic drink in his hand and hanbin snagged it back from him.
he bit his lip. he hadn’t even come to terms with that yet but if matthew could see then he didn’t think there was any point in trying to deny his feelings.
“did you always know i did?” hanbin questioned, not being able to stop himself from stealing another glance at you and jiwoong laughing. he frowned.
“a little. i can’t tell with you, you’re so kind with everybody…” matthew trailed off for a moment and looked over at you and jiwoong too. “…but if seeing them together pisses you off this much. i think you have some confessing to do.” matthew pat his friends shoulder before leaving him alone again.
hanbin was left alone again with nothing but the alcohol to keep him company.
for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to approach you two. so he just watched heart achingly from the sidelines.

you sat alone on the couch scrolling mindlessly through your phone, your shoulders drooped as you remembered your plan. so much for all of that. the party had begun to die down and it was only getting later.
although you had received a fair amount of stares from hanbin he had never actually done anything like you had hoped.
you figured you would have to find a way to get over him. maybe you would take jiwoong up on his offer.
but you doubted any of the ‘fine bachelors’ he knew would ever live up to hanbin.
sweet, charming and perfect hanbin.
you almost didn’t notice hao approaching whilst you were lost in your thoughts. hanbin was slumped against him, looking completely out of it. it wasn’t like him to drink so much.
his neck was nestled into hao’s neck. he looked cute. his cheeks were rosy from the alcohol and his blinks were slow and drowsy.
“hey y/n, could you take him up to matt’s room for me? i think he’s had enough fun for the night.”
you nodded at hao, giving him a tight lipped smile as he moved a drunk hanbin over to you.
hanbin hugged your waist, “you smell nice.” he mused tiredly. his lips ghosted over your neck and you could feel yourself start to blush. your mission to get over him would have to start tomorrow.
“good luck.” hao sang, lifting up his solo cup at you before disappearing into the crowd.
you made your way to matthew’s room (which wasn’t easy considering you had to manoeuvre your way though the crowd with a man leaning on your shoulder).
“here you go.” you said softly, laying hanbin in the bed and he giggled sitting up.
you sighed sitting across from him. “weren’t you just half asleep.” you tilted your head at him.
“did i already tell you that you look pretty tonight. my y/n always dresses so pretty.” he slurred smiling at you and your stomach was doing summersaults as he leaned towards you for a moment.
you chuckled hiding your nervousness, “your y/n?”
he deflated, his happy mood disappearing suddenly. “oh, jiwoong’s y/n now.”
you were going to go on a rant and tell him how you weren’t anyone’s but it seemed like he had more to say so you kept your mouth shut wanting to see where this would go.
“can i tell you a secret, you can’t tell anyone though.” he was giggling again and you couldn’t help but giggle along with him despite the fact your heart was racing.
once you promised to keep his secret he cupped his hand around his mouth and said, “i like you y/n. actually i really, really like you so much that my heart hurts when you’re not with me.” he placed a hand over his heart and his eyes glazed over a bit.
you froze after hearing what he had to say, stuck between jumping up and down for joy and crying once you remembered the boy wasn’t even sober right now.
you smiled sadly at hanbin, “let’s see if you still feel that way tomorrow.”
“i will, i swear. y/n please don’t date jiwoong or anyone else. just me,” he pouted, taking your hand in his and you had to pull your eyes away from his so you wouldn’t say something you would regret tomorrow.
what if you had confessed your feelings for him right there and then and he woke up the next morning and told you everything he said was just the drink talking. you couldn’t risk it.
“we’ll talk about all this in the morning, ‘kay. night bin.” your thumb grazed over his knuckles reassuringly before you let go of his hand rushing out of the room.
a breath you didn’t even know you were holding escaped your lips.
***
you woke up groggily after passing out on matthew’s couch. there was a crick in your neck that you could only thank the awkward position you fell asleep in for.
the party ended smoothly last night. you, jiwoong and hanbin being the only people that got the privilege to stay, another pro that came with seok matthew’s friendship.
you hadn’t drank much. anything you had drank had been washed away after the conversation you had with hanbin before getting him to bed. his words sobered you up quicker than any glass of water ever could.
you spent the rest of the night at the party alone and contemplating his words and if there was truth behind any of them.
you rubbed at your eyes as you scanned the living room. you could hear some commotion in the kitchen. you were donning a black hoodie jiwoong had brought after complaining to him about how you were cold.
the hoodie hid the dress you had been wearing and practically swallowed you whole.
you padded into the kitchen quietly.
hanbin was in there, searching the cabinets for something. you couldn’t help but smile at his messy bedhead.
“looking for something?”
he practically jumped out of his skin at your voice. “y/n, morning…” hanbin’s voice trailed off for a moment as he scanned your attire. his jaw clenched a little and he turned back to the cabinet.
“just trying to find some advil, i thought matt always kept it in here.”
you tucked a loose strand of your hair behind your ear. “it’s on the coffee table i’ll go get it for you.”
you rushed out of the kitchen eager to get away from the tense situation. both of you were walking on eggshells, neither wanting to address the elephant in the room.
you returned after collecting yourself and the advil. “here.” you handed it to hanbin smiling and he already has a glass of water ready to take the hangover cure.
you nibbled at your lip nervously and looked around.
“what are you doing in jiwoong’s hoodie?” he suddenly asked, gesturing towards it.
you flushed and looked down at the comfortable piece of clothing. “i just got cold.” you explain briefly and then awkward silence engulfs the room again.
the jealous look in hanbin’s eyes as he asked the question was enough for you to gather up the courage to continue speaking however.
“are we gonna talk about yesterday?” you questioned looking up at him.
hanbin nearly chokes on the water then and he drops the glass slowly. “well…i said my piece and i meant it, i think it’s your turn to show how you feel.” there’s a bit of underlying sass is his tone that makes your left eyebrow raise.
you step closer to him. “sung hanbin.” you squint.
hanbin doesn’t back down however.
“i have been showing you how i feel for months now. while you had new secret admirers everyday, i had to watch, hoping and praying by just being there for you one day you would actually see me. but all it took was one hug from jiwoong and all of a sudden you wanna stop being oblivious of your feelings. i just think it’s rich that-“
hanbin pulls you in towards him and in seconds he’s silenced you with a kiss. one of his hands caressed your cheek while the other remains on your waist keeping you as close as possible.
his lips are soft like you had always imagined them to be and being this close to him you are completely immersed in that cologne of his that you love so much.
hanbin pulls away for a moment and looks down at you breathlessly. “a simple ‘i like you too’ would have worked as well you know.”
you push him away playfully.
“if you had gone through half of the pining i went through you would have done the same. i wasn’t even half way done.”
he interlaces his fingers with yours to pull you back in for another kiss. “me neither.”
and with that his lips are on yours again, he almost kisses you hungrily and you’re almost shocked at how passionate it is. like he had been waiting all his life for it.
“woah! it is not even 10 o’ clock yet..” jiwoong tsked walking into the kitchen. you and hanbin practically jumped apart.
“oh no, no. continue. don’t let me interrupt. i just needed some coffee. it can wait. you two get back to it.” he waved you two off and you rolled your eyes at the smug grin on his face.
hanbin’s eyes barely left your form the whole time jiwoong was in the room and you suddenly became hyper aware of it once jiwoong retreated back upstairs.
you could feel your face heating up as you turned back towards him and met his intense gaze.
“i’m starting to think the whole jiwoong, y/n thing was all some elaborate plan.” he mused.
you made a guilty face and hanbin laughed.
you shrugged, “it worked didn’t it.”
