Gunwook x Y/N
Fluff
.
You were scrolling through Instagram and saw a reel about taking sisterhood with your best friend too seriously that you ended up marrying their brother. You immediately shared the reel with your best friend, Hyerin.
“Too bad your brother’s younger than me.” You joked. “I’d love to have you as my sister-in-law.”
“Hahahaha girl! Imagine that, though. That’d be crazy. But why are you so against dating someone younger than you?”
“Guys who are younger than me trigger my maternal instincts. I’ll treat them like younger brothers and will naturally want to take care of them.”
“But you want to be taken care of?” Hyerin knew you too well.
“Exactly. Of course, care should go both ways. I’m not saying I want to be babied, but I need someone I know I can rely on when I’m having hard times. So unless he’s very emotionally mature, I don’t see myself dating someone younger.”
“Be careful, though. Not everyone who’s older than you is emotionally mature. And yes, I am talking about your ex.”
“Ya, Park Hyerin!” Yet, you couldn’t refute what she said. “How’s your brother anyway? I haven’t seen him in ages.”
“He’s going to university this year.” Hyerin had a younger brother, Gunwook, who was three years younger than you and Hyerin.
“Already?” In your mind, you still remember Gunwook as a cute little kid.
“Girl, he’s 19 already. Legally an adult. He’s even taller than my dad now.”
“Damn, time flew by.” The last time you saw Gunwook, he was still shorter than you.
.
After the seminar was over, you headed to meet with Hyerin for lunch. She was standing in the courtyard, talking to a guy, when you saw her. You cheekily grinned, thinking you had caught your best friend flirting with someone. You took a better look at the man. He was at least one head taller than Hyerin, who was around 5 feet and 4 inches tall. He looked buff in his black, fitted t-shirt, and his shoulders were especially broad. Yet despite his manly build, his smile was bright like a ray of sunshine.
You waited until he left before sneaking up on Hyerin. “Who is that?” You smirked with your arm wrapped around Hyerin’s neck. “He’s pretty cute.”
“What are you talking about? That’s my brother, Y/N-ah.”
“What?” You shrieked. “You’re saying that’s Gunwook?”
“Yes.” Hyerin giggled. “Did I just hear you call my brother ‘cute’?”
“Did I?” You averted Hyerin’s gaze, not wanting to admit that you found your best friend’s little brother, whom you’ve known since he was 9, hot.
“I’m pretty sure you did.”
“Yeah, fine. I did. Gosh, this feels so weird.” You shuddered.
‘It’s okay. Objectively speaking, he is quite a handsome kid.” Hyerin continued to make fun of you.
“Stop!” You covered your ears while shaking your head.
“Do you mind if he joins us for lunch?”
“Didn’t he leave to go somewhere?”
“Just the bathroom. I told him I was having lunch with you, and he asked if he could come along since he hasn’t seen you in ages.”
“Really? Right after I called him cute?”
“At least he doesn’t know.” Hyerin chortles at your embarrassment.
“Y/N Noona.” A cheerful voice greeted you from behind.
You turned around, not surprised to see that it was Gunwook.
“Hey, Gunwook.” You hid your awkwardness in the most natural tone.
“It’s been so long.”
“I know. I couldn’t even recognise you a while ago. You’ve grown so much.”
“But Noona, you haven’t changed much.” He flashed a big smile.
You guys headed to the cafeteria for lunch. While chatting with Gunwook, it felt like you were getting to know him all over again. He was still outgoing and full of energy, but had become much more socially aware and well-spoken. He was still an obedient little brother to Hyerin, but he had also grown to be a gentleman who would take care of those around him. If you didn’t know his age, you would have never guessed that he was younger than you by three years. Especially with his physique, you would probably be fooled if he told you he was two years older than you. But just because he’s all grown up, it still doesn’t change how you view him as a little brother. It was a very deep-rooted impression. Or at least you thought so.
You bumped into Gunwook a few times on campus and exchanged a few words every time. Over time, when you think of Gunwook, you no longer think of the little boy who followed Hyerin and you around the house; instead, a bright, sporty, yet gentle college student springs to mind.
You were heading to the coffee shop on campus after attending a lecture, when you saw your ex-boyfriend walking towards you. You immediately turned around and sped up, trying to avoid him.
“No, Y/N! Wait up!” He called.
You walked even faster away from him. You have broken up with him for six months, but recently he has been asking you to get back together. You adamantly refused him time after time, but he didn’t seem to get the idea. You were the one who asked to break up back then because he was treating you so coldly, like he was asking for it. He would be texting on his phone, all smiley, but when he talked to you, he was extremely rude. Your intuition told you that he was talking to another girl, but the real reason didn’t matter too much. Thanks to his vile treatment towards the end of your relationship, you moved on in no time.
“Y/N!” He caught up to you and grabbed your wrist.
You yanked his hand away at once. “I think I’ve made myself very clear more than once. It’s over for us. I won’t get back with you.”
“I know I messed up, but please, I’ve learnt my lesson. I didn’t realise before how much I loved you, but now I do.” He held your left arm with both of his hands tightly, not allowing you to get loose.
“It’s too late now. If you really do love me, please leave me alone and let go of my hand now.” You said sternly.
“Please give me a second chance to make everything up to you.” His hands were still strongly gripping your arm.
Your patience was running out, but before you could yell at him, someone else stepped in.
“Which part of ‘it’s over’ and ‘let go’ do you not understand?” Gunwook stood between you and your ex, towering over him.
“Wh… Who are you?” Your ex was a bit intimidated by Gunwook.
“Don’t make me make you let go of her hand.” Gunwook ignored his question. “My patience is very limited. 3, 2…”
He let go of your hand before Gunwook counted to one.
Once Gunwook saw that your ex had let go of you, he turned around to make sure that you were fine. “Are you alright, Noona?”
You nodded at him, but your mind couldn’t get over how exceptionally soft he sounded when he called you ‘Noona’.
“I’m talking to my girlfriend. Who are you to get in the way of our conversation?” Your ex interjected.
“No one’s your girlfriend. Noona obviously doesn’t want anything to do with you. Let’s go, Noona.” Gunwook tried to get you out of the situation.
“Who is this, Y/N? Your new love interest?” His tone turned flippant. “I thought you said you wouldn’t date anyone younger than you.”
You turned around to respond to your ex one last time. “I’d rather date someone younger than me who knows how to treat me right than someone older than me who has the emotional maturity of a teenager.”
“Sorry, that was a bit embarrassing.” You told Gunwook after leaving the scene.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about, Noona. He’s the embarrassing one.”
“Exactly. It’s embarrassing that my ex is so embarrassing. I should have been a better judge of character.”
Both of you let out a little chuckle.
“Did you mean it, though, Noona?”
“Mean what?” You looked up at him, puzzled.
“When you said you’d rather date someone younger than you who knows how to treat you right.”
“I don’t know, to be honest.” You shrugged your shoulders. “It’ll depend on the person, I guess.”
“What if it’s me?”
