You have been busy filming a new drama lately with a popular male idol, Hao. Whenever you work with a male idol, you’ll feel a huge amount of stress because fans either love it or hate it. If they love it, the smallest little actions would be magnified and seen as acts of fondness. If they absolutely hate it, you would receive a massive amount of hate. Because everyone knew about the consequences, you would always be extremely careful and maintain an appropriate distance from each other, especially in public. But then, building chemistry was also key to filming a good drama, and it would be pretty hard not to become close after spending hours with each other every single day. Eventually, you became good friends with your co-stars, who were of similar ages.
Thankfully, fans and the public have been reacting positively to the drama. This day, the few main leads of your drama gathered together to watch the broadcast of the latest episode at Gyuvin’s, the second male lead’s, home. Other than you and Hao, there were two other female co-stars, Hyunju and Yoonbi. After watching the drama, the five of you stayed until after midnight. Before you left Gyuvin’s home, you got a call from your boyfriend, Jiwoong.
“Are you still at Gyuvin-ssi’s house?”
“We just left. Are you at my place?”
“Yeah, I just got here.”
“And you already miss me?”
“I miss you every single second, every single day.”
“I’ll be back soon. Go to bed first if you’re tired.”
“See you later.” He ended the call with a sweet kiss over the phone.
.
“Y/N-ah, did you drive today?” Yoonbi asked as the four of you were getting ready to leave.
“Yeah, I did.”
“Okay, can you drive Hao Oppa back since the two of you live nearby? And I’ll drive Hyunju back.”
“Sure.”
.
One morning, about a week later, Jiwoong left home early for his schedule, while you slept in because you had a schedule only in the afternoon. Your plan was, however, disrupted by the non-stop ringing of your phone. It was your manager calling.
“Morning~,” You said in your sleepy voice. “You’re calling a bit early for an afternoon schedule.”
“You should have a look at the news today.”
“What’s so fascinating that you had to wake me up for it?” You opened your social media and saw that the top posts were all about the same issue. You looked at the photos and immediately recognised that it was you and Hao in your car. It was obvious that the photos were taken when you drove Hao back from Gyuvin’s home a week ago. They even added a few photos in which you two sat next to each other during crew dinners as ‘evidence’ that you were dating each other.
“Gosh, I simply drove him back home after a group gathering. It’s not like I went up to his home or anything. How did this develop into a dating scandal?”
“Let’s take it as a free promotion for your drama. You should be glad that it was Hao instead of Jiwoong, though. You’ll be in the limelight for a while, so be extra careful when you’re with Jiwoong. It’d be a whole different story if you and Jiwoong got caught.”
“Understood. I’ll talk with him later.”
“Aren’t you afraid he’ll misunderstand?”
“He knew I was out with Hao Oppa and the others that night, so it’ll be fine. And please, this is obvious nonsense. I’ll text him about it now.”
.

Let’s talk after work
.
When your manager picked you up for your schedule, she noticed your obvious change in mood.
“Did something bad happen? You were fine this morning.”
You showed your manager your conversation with Jiwoong this morning.
“Doesn’t sound like the usual Jiwoong.” Your manager commented. “Seems like someone’s jealous.”
“I wouldn’t be this upset if he’s just jealous, but it seems like to me, he thinks I’m having an affair with another guy.”
“You chose a pretty bad timing to tell him to be cautious when seeing each other. It’s understandable that he got a little sensitive.”
“Was I saying that for myself? Who’s going to be more affected if we get caught? He knows that better than anyone. Whatever. I don’t want to think about him right now.”
Your afternoon schedule was a drama promotion schedule. You laughed it out with Hao when you saw him, while your co-stars used the opportunity to tease you even though they clearly knew you were nothing more than friends with Hao.
“Aigoo, congratulations! Should have told us if the two of you were dating.” Yoonbi smirked mischievously as she walked towards you and Hao.
“Unnie, if it was you who drove Hao Oppa back that night, you’d be the one on the news today.” You sulked.
“But really, aren’t they pushing things a bit too far? How did they create a scandal based on those photos?” Hao let out an exasperated sigh.
“Let’s just consider ourselves unlucky.”
You thought work would be able to distract you from thinking about Jiwoong, but you found yourself checking your phone from time to time, hoping to have received a message or two from Jiwoong. But nothing came through. He said you’d talk after work, and that didn’t happen either. You figured the two of you probably needed some space to calm down.
It’s been two days since you’ve last spoken to each other. You watched as Jiwoong and his group members went live. He was never the chatty type, but he was unusually quiet, and he seemed exhausted. You couldn’t stand not talking to him anymore, so you picked up your phone and sent him a message.
You
We should talk
Face-to-face
Woongieâ¤ï¸
I’ll come up tomorrow night
.
The next day, after work, you went back home and made dinner. You weren’t sure when Jiwoong would arrive, but it wouldn’t hurt to cook a bit more food. Just when you finished plating your food, you heard someone entering the passcode to enter your home. He stood at the entryway and met eyes with you.
“Have you had dinner yet?” You asked tentatively.
“Not yet.”
“Let’s eat together then.” You placed the food on the dining table.
There was still tension lingering in the air. The two of you stayed quiet most of the time.
Even so, after dinner, the two of you stood side by side; he washed the dishes, and you dried them. You then made two cups of tea and sat down again at the table, facing each other. Both were thinking about how to bring up the elephant in the room.
“That night, only Yoonbi Unnie and I drove. Unnie drove Hyunju back, and I drove Hao Oppa back because he lives close by. That’s all.” You broke the silence by explaining the incident again.
“How come you didn’t mention it that day?”
“I wouldn’t have thought reporting such an insignificant event was necessary. I was simply driving a friend back home.”
“So if I drove a girl back home, you wouldn’t mind if I didn’t tell you?”
“Well, if I knew you were hanging out with a group of friends and you drove one of them back home and that person happened to be a girl, I wouldn’t care the slightest.”
“You’re saying that because it’s not actually happening to you.”
“Okay, if you’re angry because I drove a guy back home without telling you, fine, I’ll apologise. But if you don’t believe me, it won’t matter whatever I say. I just don’t get it. How could your trust be so easily shaken by a few photos? Don’t you know how much I love you?”
“That’s because you’re always surrounded by men.” He said coldly, and it felt like he threw a spear at your heart.
“What does that mean?”
“If I had that many female friends around me, I don’t think you could stay unbothered.”
“So… have I been a slut to you all this time?” You bit your lips to hold back your tears. “Get out. Right now.”
You ran back to your room and slammed the door before letting your tears fall. Only until you heard him leave your home did you let yourself cry out loud. Tears couldn’t wash away your pain at all. Your heart was still aching like hell, and your eyes were hurting from all the crying.
You went to the kitchen and grabbed two bottles of soju from the refrigerator. You usually hate the bitterness of alcohol, but you drank the soju like it was water. You were so intoxicated after chugging down the two bottles that you just passed out in the living room.
When you opened your eyes again, your manager was shaking you to wake you up.
“Stop shaking me. My head hurts.” You whimpered.
“You scared the hell out of me. I thought you fainted.” She glanced at the empty soju bottles on the side table. “Did you drink a lot last night? Why did you fall asleep here?”
“Do I have time for a shower?” You ignored her questions and held your head in pain.
“You’ve got half an hour to get ready.”
Your manager asked no further questions about what happened the night before. She made you a simple breakfast and even asked the driver to buy you some hangover pills.
“Thank you.” You thanked her as she casually handed you an ice pack to put on your swollen eyes after you got in the car.
Unfortunately, your eyes were still a bit puffy when you got to your interview.
“Are you alright?” Hao was quick to notice that you weren’t in your best condition. “You haven’t been looking too well lately. Has our dating scandal been affecting you?”
“No, don’t worry about me.”
To keep yourself from overthinking, you kept yourself busy all the time. You would try to tire yourself out with workouts or make yourself drowsy with alcohol so that you could go to bed early. But it was obvious to everyone around you that you were having a hard time. Within a week, you had lost a considerable amount of weight.
You were still hurt by what Jiwoong had said, but you had to admit that you missed him. How were the two of you going to carry on?
Work finished early today. You didn’t want to go home too soon to be sitting within four walls, so you did some shopping and took a stroll in the park. Then, you went back home to do some chores and cook yourself dinner. But even after all this, it was still just 8 pm, so you picked out a movie to watch before forcing yourself to go to bed. However, you found it especially hard to fall asleep tonight; you’d been tossing and turning for the last hour.
In the end, you got up and changed into something casual before grabbing your car keys and heading to Jiwoong’s company. You weren’t sure if he’d be there, but he usually spent his free time at the company.
You heard music coming from the practice room when you walked past it. You peeked through the glazing and saw Jiwoong dancing in there. You stood there for a good while, but he showed no intention of stopping to rest. It looked to you like he was using dancing as an outlet for his emotions. He danced till he felt weak at the knees and fell to the floor. You instantly rushed into the room.
“Ya, are you okay? That’s enough. Don’t overdo it.”
“Why are you here?”
“I’ll get you some water.” You were about to get up, but he held your wrist to stop you from going. “I’ll be back right away.”
You came back with some water and handed it to him.
“Why are you here?” He looked at you with watery eyes and asked the same question again.
“Because I miss someone to the point where it’s getting suffocating.”
“Let’s go to your workroom. It feels like someone will barge in here at any moment.” You stood up, but Jiwoong remained sitting on the floor. “Why aren’t you moving?”
“My legs feel weak.”
You sighed at his childish act but still extended your arms to pull him up and help him back to his workroom.
“Your clothes are drenched in sweat. Do you have a change of clothes here?” You had a look through his stuff in the cupboard.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” His apology immediately brought tears to your eyes. “I was too sensitive and said things that hurt you.”
“I should apologise too for making you feel insecure. I wouldn’t have known how you felt if you didn’t say anything.” You kept your back facing him. “I’ll be even more discreet from now on.”
He turned you around and pulled you into a hug.
“Did you cry a lot?” He wiped off the tears on your face.
“Just a bit.”
“I’m sorry, baby.”
“It’s alright now.”
“I missed you a lot. Thank you for coming to me first.”
“Thank you for apologising first.” You tipped your toes and leaned in to kiss him. “Now, go and take a shower. You stink from all the sweat.”
“Ya!”
